Pay Range:
$18.00-$22.50 per hour All applications are reviewed as received and accepted until the position is filled.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. One year of customer service experience preferred. Basic computer skills in a Windows environment. Able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Able to sustain ten-hour work day spent standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and lifting. The Humane Society requires drug testing and criminal background checks of all employment candidates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A highly motivated, empathetic, polite, and team-oriented individual with a kind and professional manner with the public. Able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain mental order while facing competing priorities. Derives fulfillment from teaching and helping people. High competency in reading comprehension and descriptive writing. Efficient typing skills. Emotionally resilient when facing challenging cases and willing to seek support when necessary. Knowledge of animal behavior is helpful but not expected. Sincere interest in animal welfare and the mission of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Bilingual (English/Spanish) individuals highly encouraged to apply.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an animal kennel environment, front desk environment and office environment. Exposure to animals and cleaning agents at all times. Exposure to medical equipment including needles once trained. Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament. Daily lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ten-hour shifts spent standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, and lifting.
Schedule:
8am - 6pm weekends; 8am - 7pm weekdays. Standard shifts are ten hours in length with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Potential for other schedules on a case-by-case basis. Weekend and holiday availability is required. Certain holidays only require morning availability. Employees will be regularly scheduled to work at least one weekend day per week. Candidates with an interest in working 2 weekend days per week highly encouraged to apply
Duties and Responsibilities:
Kennel Operations and Shelter Maintenance Reports to work as scheduled, on time, in appropriate attire, and prepared to perform cleaning responsibilities at the beginning of each shift. Fulfills entire scheduled shift. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains animal housing areas daily. Cleans and disinfects items/equipment following standard operating procedures. Maintains clean and well stocked workspace and distributes supplies and donations to appropriate places. Operates cleaning machinery. Adoption Counseling and Support Services Represents HSBV in a professional and courteous manner at all times and cultivates positive client relationships. Facilitates client/animal interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience. Supports and participates in HSBV's Open Adoption policy. Discusses animal medical and behavioral history. Promotes positive reinforcement and force-free training techniques. Achieves excellent client service and a positive experience for our clients by practicing principles of HSBV Client Service Vision Statement. Actively promotes HSBV's mission, services, programs, and events. Client Service and Reception Welcomes and directs visiting clients, answers and directs incoming phone calls. Accurately and efficiently processes adoption paperwork. Accurately and efficiently processes surrender and stray paperwork. Provides a kind, empathetic, and supportive experience to clients bringing in their animals for relinquishment. Thoroughly documents behavioral and medical information on relinquished animals into our shelter software. Represents our no-judgement policy when adopted animals are returned to the shelter. Coordinates with Animal Protection and Police Departments for our service areas when animals are impounded by these agencies. Animal Care Treats animals humanely and with respect. Adheres to effective disease control practices. Administers vaccinations for dogs and cats when assigned. Participates in stress reduction efforts through purposeful handling and placement of animals in shelter environment. Consistently and accurately documents behavioral or medical information as appropriate or assigned in our shelter software. Assists with euthanasia of animals. Staff Support Provides quality service to clients, volunteers, and colleagues recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization. Attends and participates in Society training programs as assigned. Safety Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment. Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk.
