Independent Contractor | On-Call Position Overview Tails in the Air is a professional pet relocation company specializing in the coordination of domestic and international transportation for dogs, cats, and other companion animals. We are seeking reliable and experienced Pet Transport Drivers / Animal Handlers in the Chicago area to join our independent contractor network. This position is well suited for individuals with prior animal-handling experience who are seeking flexible, assignment-based work. Drivers will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of animals between residences, airports, veterinary facilities, boarding facilities, and other designated locations. The position requires professionalism, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage time-sensitive transportation assignments. Responsibilities Safely transport dogs, cats, and other companion animals between designated locations Assist with airline check-in, cargo tender, and related airport procedures Safely secure and monitor animals throughout transportation Verify kennels, identification, and required travel documentation Follow detailed transportation instructions and time-sensitive schedules Maintain consistent communication with Tails in the Air's coordination team throughout each assignment Provide professional and courteous service to clients Exercise appropriate care and judgment when handling animals of varying sizes and temperaments Promptly communicate delays, changes, or issues that may affect an assignment Requirements Valid driver's license and clean driving record Reliable personal vehicle suitable for transporting pet kennels; mid-size SUV or larger required (minivan preferred!)
