Part-Time Dog Trainer & Behavior Consultant - In-Home Private Lessons Red Dog Pet Resort & Spa |
Boston, MA Part-Time Pay:
$25.00-$35.00 per hour Red Dog Pet Resort & Spa, a Kindred Pet Services brand, is seeking an experienced Dog Trainer & Behavior Consultant to provide in-home private training lessons to clients in the Boston area. We're looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate trainer who is experienced with positive reinforcement-based training and enjoys working directly with both dogs and their owners. This role is ideal for an experienced trainer seeking a flexible part-time opportunity focused on individualized coaching, behavior support, and helping pet parents build stronger relationships with their dogs. What You'll Do Conduct private, in-home dog-training sessions with clients and their dogs. Evaluate individual training and behavioral needs and develop appropriate training plans. Coach and educate pet parents on positive reinforcement-based training techniques they can continue between sessions. Work with common training and behavioral concerns, including manners, leash skills, fear, anxiety, reactivity, and other behavior challenges. Use evidence-based, positive reinforcement-based training and behavior-modification techniques, including desensitization and counterconditioning, marker training, humane leash-handling techniques, and functional behavior assessment. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding progress, recommendations, and next steps. Maintain accurate training notes and client documentation. Follow established safety protocols and recognized professional standards of practice. Collaborate with other members of the training and pet-care team when appropriate. Travel to client homes within the assigned Boston-area service territory. Qualifications At least 2 years of professional dog-training experience . Strong knowledge of positive reinforcement-based training methods. Experience working with behavior modification, including fear, anxiety, reactivity, and aggression-related behaviors. Strong marker-training, leash-handling, and behavior-assessment skills. Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and client-service skills. Reliable, professional, organized, and comfortable working independently. Ability to safely work with dogs of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and behavioral needs. Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to client homes within the assigned service area. Preferred Credentials Certification or active progress toward certification through a recognized training or behavior organization is strongly preferred, including:
CPDT-KA / CCPDT IAABC
Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) The Academy for Dog Trainers CATCH Canine Trainers Academy Comparable recognized professional training or behavior credentials Shelter, rescue, veterinary, boarding, daycare, or other professional animal-care experience is a plus.
