Job Description

Professional Dog Trainer All About Dogs | Auburn, Ohio Are you a professional dog trainer who loves helping dogs become more confident, capable, and enjoyable companions — while helping their people better understand them? All About Dogs is looking for an experienced, motivated Dog Trainer to join our established and highly successful training program. This is an opportunity to become part of a well-established pet care business with an existing training client base, multiple training programs, and a steady stream of dogs who need training, enrichment, and guidance. We don't believe dog training is one-size-fits-all. Our trainers work with dogs in a variety of environments and formats, allowing us to create training plans that meet the individual needs of each dog and owner. What You'll Be Doing Our trainers have the opportunity to work across several areas of our training program, including:
Board & Train:
Develop individualized training programs for dogs staying at our facility and work with owners to successfully transfer those skills home.
Daycare Training:
Provide structured training sessions for daycare dogs, incorporating obedience, manners, confidence building, and appropriate social skills into their day.
Private Training:
Work one-on-one with clients and their dogs to address obedience, manners, behavior challenges, and real-life goals.
Group Classes:
Teach engaging, structured group classes ranging from puppy and beginner obedience through more advanced skills.
Enrichment:
Develop and implement enrichment activities that encourage appropriate behaviors, problem solving, confidence, engagement, and mental stimulation.
Owner Education:
Teach people as well as dogs! Help owners understand canine behavior and give them practical skills they can successfully use at home.
Training Assessments:
Evaluate dogs and help determine the training program that best fits their individual needs.
Training Plans:
Create clear, effective training plans and communicate progress and recommendations to clients and the team.
Continued Program Development:
Bring new ideas, activities, classes, and training opportunities to an already successful training department. Our Training Philosophy At All About Dogs, we believe effective training should build trust, communication, confidence, and a desire to learn. Our training program is positive reinforcement based and focuses on teaching dogs what we want them to do rather than relying on fear, intimidation, or pain. Aversive training methods and tools are not permitted at our facility. We are looking for trainers who genuinely believe in this approach and are excited to continue learning and developing their craft. What We're Looking For We are looking for a trainer who is both knowledgeable and professional , but also someone who can connect with dogs, people, and our team.
The ideal candidate will have:
2+ years of professional dog training experience , preferably with references Experience training dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages, temperaments, and learning styles Strong knowledge of canine behavior and body language Experience teaching foundational obedience through advanced skills Experience working with puppies and adult dogs Experience teaching owners how to successfully maintain training at home Experience with group classes and/or private lessons Experience with behavior modification is a strong plus Experience with board & train programs is a strong plus Knowledge of canine enrichment and confidence-building activities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills The ability to explain training concepts clearly to clients and team members Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a training schedule Professionalism and excellent customer service skills A willingness to continue your education through seminars, courses, workshops, research, and other professional development opportunities The ability to work independently while also being an active member of a larger team A willingness to assist with maintaining clean and organized training areas Certifications are not required , but professional certifications, continuing education, competition experience, or other relevant credentials are a bonus. Why Train at All About Dogs? You're not starting from scratch. All About Dogs has built a successful, established training business with an existing customer base and a variety of programs. You'll have the opportunity to work with clients and dogs through multiple avenues rather than relying solely on private lessons. Our facility allows trainers to work with dogs throughout their stay with us — from daycare training and enrichment to board & train, private lessons, and group classes. You'll also be surrounded by a larger pet care team that includes daycare, boarding, grooming, and front desk staff, giving you the opportunity to work with dogs in a variety of settings. We have been serving the greater Cleveland area for more than 20 years , and we're passionate about continuing to grow our training program while maintaining the quality and reputation we've built. We Want You to Grow With Us We're looking for someone who doesn't simply want to train dogs , but wants to build a career in professional dog training. As our training department continues to grow, there are opportunities to develop new programs, expand classes, take on additional responsibilities, and grow your role within the department. If you're passionate about dogs, enjoy teaching people, take pride in your work, and want to be part of an established training program where you can train, teach, create, and grow , we'd love to hear from you.
