Job Description

Are you perhaps retired, a college student taking a semester off or a stay-at-home parent and looking for time outside your home? Or, do you have a corporate job and seek to supplement your income with a job involving animals? This may be the PT job for you! Founded in 2008, KSR Pet Care, LLC has been a highly respected, bonded and insured professional dog walking and pet sitting company with its main HUB in McLean / Tyson's Corner. We are always searching for more pet lovers to join our 30+ team. We have excellent references and reviews, are BBB+ accredited and are currently working with 800+ active clients. Our 3-person office team is available to assist when you are out on the job and manages all bookings and client profiles. You get training on the job by means of shadows, consultations, an orientation video and by following a CPR & Pet First aid course. Vacancy - Part time
Dog Walker:
For the position of PT dog walker, you need to be available Monday-Friday 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM to take on primary or back-up positions and build up a portfolio of clients and a weekly route. Availability on the weekend days and after hours for pet sitting can help supplement more income. Dog walking on weekends and after-hours gets paid extra. You need to own a car and a smart phone. Your affinity for dogs needs to be strong. If you like cats, too, this could be a plus as we also provide pet sitting for cats and small animals as well as dog sitting and overnight care. Responsibilities You must own an insured car and smartphone, be willing to work and walk rain or shine, wearing appropriate gear, be highly motivated to work as part of a team and communicate with our main office by means of the Time To Pet phone app and web page (portal) on a daily basis in a prompt and professional manner. You must download and use our free app (Time to Pet) whenever you are doing a client visit and switch on your phone's location services. You must make yourself available to join client consultations/ shadow visits/ training and whenever possible support your colleagues by taking on back-up positions. You must be well-organized, keep track of your supplies and keys and be attentive to the security and safety of the client's pets and homes. You must also complete a CPR & Pet First aid course in the first three months of your employment. You get paid for your time during training. For your security, we always do an introduction with either a colleague or the client before sending you to a house on your own. Qualifications and Skills. You need basic knowledge of dog and/or cat care, be punctual, flexible and dependable; for dog walking, be ready to work outdoors rain or shine! You have your own insured car, personal smartphone and be on email/mobile every day you are listed to work. You must pass a criminal background check, 2 interviews (one is virtual, one is in person) with our management team and pass a professional reference check. You need to demonstrate that you are motivated to work with animals and have good time-management skills. You need to be eager to learn more about cats and/ or dogs / puppies/ senior dogs and have owned and cared for dogs/ cats in your past. You need to be able to commit to this job for 1 year minimum.

  • Eligible for a raise after 3 months. Next, after 6 months, after 12 months and then, annually for each work anniversary.
  • Annual bonus just before the Holidays on the basis of your annual earnings starting year 2 of employment.
  • Work remotely and from home, generally within 5-8 miles from your home. This depends on the clients you choose to take on and your home location.
  • Casual dress; appropriate dog walking gear, no flip-flops
  • Employee status means you do not pay self-employment tax.

If you work as subcontractor, sole proprietor or independent contractor you would pay 2x the tax)
  • Earn 100% of tips. This is a service job, so tips are encouraged and promoted

  • A fun, supportive and caring work environment; we provide annual promotional gear (Land's End) as gifts and organize a holiday party
  • A 3-person customer service team in the office to support you Training.
Before starting service for a client, you are introduced to the home and pets in person and at times also to the customers/ pet owners. Before starting on the job, you follow an initial orientation training (30 min company video) and conduct shadow meetings on the job at client homes to which you come prepared with questions. Our sitters also get CPR & Pet First Aid training which is 100% reimbursed after six months (and made $1000 in wages with us,) of loyal service. You get paid for your time at this 5-hour course. More individual training is possible upon request. Wages. You get paid by the visit (commission pay). which is on avg. $20/hour as a start-up rate. Your first evaluation at 3 months is typically accompanied by a first rate increase/ promotion. A second and third evaluation follows at 6 months and 1 year respectively, and then annually. We also offer bonuses on the basis of performance and annually before the Holidays. We have an Employee of the Month reward (with bonus attached). This is an employee position (W2), so employer costs and taxes are taken care of by KSR Pet Care.
