Job Description

Kennel Technician Pawsitive Canine Academy We are a fast-paced Dog Training Facility! We are looking to add a Kennel Tech to our AWESOME team! Our facility houses a canine rescue, a canine training kennel, working dog program, whelping puppies, farm animals (chickens and horses) and many barn cats. This position requires patience and the ability to handle difficult behaviors in a gentle, but effective manner. We work with and train dogs that need our help, this includes dogs with aggression, reactivity, naughty manners, fear, anxiety, high drive and so much more. This does include working dogs for law enforcement, military and SAR. For some of these dogs, we are their last chance. The dogs and their families need our help. This job is not for people who want to play with puppies all day, cuddle and coddle dogs. That is not what we are about. There is education and expectations required for you and the dogs that are here. Dogs don't come to us because the owners don't love them, they come to us because they love them too much and don't offer the structure and guidance and education that we can.
Duties:
  • Cleaning, Rotation of Dogs, Feeding, Watering, Bathing, and other duties as needed.
  • Must be willing to work shifts as early as 7AM and as late as 10PM, and is available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be comfortable working with ALL breeds of dogs and other small animals.
  • There is an inherent risk when working with animals. Must be comfortable working with dogs that show dog aggression, human aggression, separation anxiety, and other behavioral problems.
  • The candidate should have a strong understanding of safety and time management
  • Capable of working in an environment with traffic, the public, and barking
  • You may be exposed to solvents, disinfectants, sanitation chemicals, animal dander, saliva, urine, feces, animal teeth, and claws may contact hands, skin, and clothing.
  • You have previous customer service experience and are capable of communicating with clients, and staff in both written and spoken English
  • You are capable of working with little supervision and taking instruction and correction.
  • You have the patience and empathy to work with puppies and other animals with special needs and requirements (medical and behavioral concerns)
  • Working outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
  • The majority of tasks assigned will require you to walk or stand on your feet for several hours per day, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, walk up and down stairs; handle extra small and/or large dogs, and be able to lift up to 50lbs.

You must be willing to learn how to open and close the kennel. This will mean getting all of the dogs out to potty and fed in the AM and out to potty, tucked in safe and sound for the evening. This position is crucial...must be extremely reliable, dependable, teachable and flexible! We want someone who wants to learn, grow and potentially become a dog trainer.
