An Animal Trainer trains animals to become familiar with human voices and contact, and to respond to commands. Trains dogs to assist people with disabilities. May train animals for a health, competition, or show. May train other animals such as horses, dolphins, and apes.
Campus, Plus In-State Travel SUMMARY The Dog Training Instructor develops training programs and curriculums that align with PPP's mission, vision, and strategic plan. The responsibilities of this position include providing PPP dogs with training and care necessary to prepare them to be potential working service, therapy dogs or adoptable pets with AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification. OA ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for development, implementation of dog training program Training program includes ADI accredited service dog program, therapy dogs, train-to- adopt rescue dogs (Paroled Pets), and training of privately owned dogs Assist in selection of animals, behavior assessment and management, training and health of animals involved in the program Coordinate and provide instruction of program participants and volunteers in dog training and animal behavior to ensure that dogs meet established standards of training prior to placement Responsible for conducting pre-placement interviews, team training and regular follow-up with clients in alignment with standards established by Assistance Dogs International (ADI) Liaise with animal welfare organizations, veterinarians, vendors, and others assigned as they relate to the dog training program Assist and support organization for ADI re-accreditation process to include maintaining program standards, documentation, and survey logistics Represent the organization at community events and fundraising activities to enhance the program's community profile Development of all written materials on behalf of the dog training program Contribute to the success of the program by meeting organizational competency expectations, continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned This is a general description of the responsibilities for the Dog Training Instructor position; other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge of the needs of and training dogs for people with mobility disabilities and seizure disorders Ability to communicate and provide instruction to PPP program participants, staff, clients, and the public in a variety of situations regarding dog training Ability to work within the confines of a prison campus Skill in the use of computers including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office applications Ability to work independently and take initiative Ability to set priorities and use good judgment
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five (5) years' experience training dogs at all life stages Training and placement of service dogs Experience in training, behavior modification and placement of rescue dogs Experience working with individuals with physical and developmental disabilities
DESIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in related field CPDT Certified Trainer or equivalent Experience working with an ADI accredited organization Experience working in a prison environment Experience working with a non-profit

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, stretch, walk, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift at least forty (40) pounds. The employee will be exposed to different breeds and temperaments of animals. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. PPP has offices inside the WCCW campus. DOC policies supersede PPP policies when working on WCCW campus grounds. The employee is expected to follow all DOC policies and procedures inside the campus and when interacting with program participants (WCCW inmates). Restrictions are applied to cell phone use, technology, and the transportation of sensitive materials through the campus. The employee should expect no privacy when working on WCCW grounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
