Job Description

Experienced Pet Stylist/Groomer Join the Salty Dawg Team Salty Dawg is looking for an experienced, professional groomer to join our Columbus salon. This is an opportunity to bring your established grooming skills into a supportive, well-equipped salon environment where you can build a loyal clientele and grow your career — not just clock in for a job. At Salty Dawg, you'll groom with modern equipment and provided product, set your own schedule, and build a client base in a salon that invests in your growth — with continuing education, a supportive team, and employee discounts along the way. What You'll Do Independently perform full-service grooms — including breed-specific and pet-parent-requested cuts — across a variety of breeds, sizes, and coat types Execute precise scissoring and clipper work to deliver a consistent, polished finished groom Assess coat and skin condition and recommend the right grooming approach for each dog Handle dogs confidently and safely using proper restraint techniques, prioritizing their comfort throughout the groom Perform nail trims, ear cleaning, and other grooming maintenance with care and precision Communicate directly with pet parents to understand their vision for the groom, set expectations, and provide updates — you're a key part of the guest experience, not just working behind the scenes Offer pet care advice and build trust and rapport with clients to encourage repeat visits Maintain a clean, organized grooming station and properly care for tools and equipment to uphold salon health and safety standards
What We're Looking For Required:
Minimum of 2 years professional dog grooming experience Demonstrated ability to independently complete full grooms across a range of breeds, sizes, and coat types Strong scissoring and clipper skills Excellent communication skills and comfort interacting directly with pet parents A portfolio or photos of recent grooming work
Preferred:
Grooming certification Experience building and maintaining a client book Compensation This role is commission-based. Groomers with a full book typically earn $300-$450 per day, including tips. Communicate effectively with pet owners to understand grooming requests, provide updates, and offer pet care advice Assist with animal handling tasks such as dog training, veterinary assistance, or kennel management as needed Maintain cleanliness of grooming stations, tools, and equipment to uphold health standards Support pet care activities including animal restraint, feeding assistance, or light veterinary-related tasks if required Experience Prior experience in pet grooming or styling is highly preferred Knowledge of dog training techniques and veterinary procedures enhances your ability to handle animals confidently Veterinary technician or assistant experience is a strong asset for understanding animal health needs Experience working with various animals such as dogs, cats, or horses demonstrates versatility in animal handling Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with pet owners and foster trust Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary for handling larger animals or equipment Familiarity with kennel operations, pet sitting duties, or animal restraint practices is beneficial Join us to make a difference in pets' lives while building a rewarding career in a lively environment that celebrates your passion for animals!
