Job Summary:

Provide professional hair braiding services to clients, including cornrows, box braids, twists, locs, feed-in braids, and protective styles. Ensure high-quality workmanship, excellent client care, sanitation, and timely service in a salon, booth-rental, or mobile setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Consult with clients to assess hair type, condition, desired style, and maintenance needs. Create a variety of braid styles (box braids, cornrows, Fulani braids, goddess braids, twists, knotless, feed-in, faux locs, etc.) to client specifications. Wash, detangle, condition, and prepare hair as needed prior to braiding. Use professional techniques to ensure neat, long-lasting braids with even tension and clean partings. Advise clients on aftercare, styling, product use, and scheduling follow-up or removal appointments. Maintain clean, sanitary workstations and tools; follow health and safety protocols. Manage appointment scheduling and accurately record client service details and preferences. Upsell complementary services or retail products when appropriate. Stay current on braid trends, techniques, and new products.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Formal cosmetology/hairstyling license if required by local regulations; braiding certification a plus. Proven experience braiding a range of styles; portfolio or photos strongly preferred. Knowledge of hair types, scalp health, and protective styling best practices.

Skills:

Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and speed without sacrificing quality. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively. Comfortable working with diverse hair textures and lengths. Basic retail and point-of-sale experience beneficial.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and use hands/arms repetitively. Comfortable performing work that may require leaning over clients and fine motor tasks.

Work Conditions:

Salon, studio, or mobile environment; may include evenings and weekends. May involve exposure to hair products and chemicals (minimal for braiding-focused roles).

Compensation:

Hourly rate, commission, or chair-rental structure depending on employer; include expected range if known by employer. Tips and product commissions may apply.
