This position prepares students for careers in advanced esthetics by teaching advanced skin science, treatment protocols, device-based modalities, client assessment, safety, sanitation, contraindications, professional standards, and other skills included within the approved Advanced Esthetician curriculum. The Advanced Esthetician Instructor must demonstrate strong technical expertise and place significant emphasis on client safety, appropriate treatment selection, equipment operation, contraindications, and adherence to applicable scope-of-practice requirements. Essential Job Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum Delivery Deliver classroom, laboratory, and hands-on clinical instruction in accordance with the approved curriculum, lesson plans, course objectives, and established academic schedules. Provide instruction in applicable advanced esthetics topics, which may include: Advanced anatomy and physiology Advanced skin science Skin analysis and consultation Skin conditions and disorders Advanced facial treatments and protocols Advanced exfoliation techniques Chemical exfoliation and peels Microdermabrasion Dermaplaning Microneedling, where permitted LED and light-based modalities Radiofrequency and other energy-based modalities Laser and light-based treatments, where permitted Hair-reduction technologies Advanced electrical modalities Advanced facial equipment and technologies Product chemistry and ingredients Treatment planning and protocol development Pre- and post-treatment care Client consultation and documentation Contraindications and precautions Infection control, sanitation, and disinfection Client safety and emergency procedures State laws, regulations, and scope of practice Professional ethics and boundaries Customer service and client retention Retail and product recommendations Professional and career development Applicable state licensure examination preparation Demonstrate advanced esthetic procedures and equipment using appropriate safety and sanitation practices. Connect theory and skin science to practical treatment selection and client outcomes. Teach students to understand the purpose, benefits, limitations, risks, and contraindications associated with advanced modalities. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques to support different learning styles and student needs. Maintain current knowledge of advanced esthetics technologies, equipment, products, treatment protocols, and industry trends. Ensure all instruction remains within the approved curriculum and applicable scope-of-practice requirements. Advanced Equipment & Treatment Safety Provide thorough instruction on the safe and appropriate operation of advanced esthetic equipment. Ensure students understand equipment indications, contraindications, precautions, settings, protocols, and safety requirements before performing services. Demonstrate proper equipment setup, operation, cleaning, maintenance, and storage. Verify student competency before permitting independent hands-on practice as appropriate within the instructional environment. Closely supervise students performing advanced services. Reinforce appropriate client screening and treatment-selection procedures. Teach students to recognize when a treatment should be modified, postponed, or not performed. Ensure students understand the importance of remaining within their legal and professional scope of practice. Immediately intervene when student practices could compromise client, student, or employee safety. Promptly report equipment malfunctions, damage, or safety concerns. Ensure equipment is used only for approved educational purposes and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and institutional procedures. Hands-On & Student Clinic Instruction Supervise students performing advanced esthetic services in laboratory and student clinic environments. Demonstrate procedures before students perform new or unfamiliar techniques. Observe student services and provide immediate coaching and corrective instruction when necessary. Monitor client consultations, skin analyses, treatment planning, service execution, and post-treatment recommendations. Ensure students appropriately document client history, contraindications, treatment information, and other required information. Ensure students follow required infection-control, sanitation, disinfection, and safety procedures. Maintain appropriate instructor supervision during all student services. Promote professional customer service and appropriate student-client interactions. Ensure students perform only services authorized by the curriculum, institutional policy, applicable law, and the student's level of training. Student Learning & Academic Progress Monitor student attendance, academic performance, practical skill development, competency, and overall progress. Evaluate student competency through written examinations, practical demonstrations, assignments, projects, and other approved assessment methods. Accurately grade and document student work within established timelines. Identify students who are struggling academically or practically and provide appropriate coaching and instructional support. Develop or participate in academic improvement plans as required. Provide clear, constructive, and timely feedback. Require students to demonstrate appropriate safety and technical competency before progressing to more advanced procedures. Encourage students to take ownership of their attendance, academic progress, professional development, and program completion. Communicate significant student concerns to Education leadership in a timely manner. Support student retention through proactive engagement, coaching, and early intervention. Student Professional Development Model professional conduct, appearance, communication, ethics, and customer service. Reinforce expectations regarding attendance, punctuality, professionalism, accountability, and workplace behavior. Teach students to conduct professional client consultations and set realistic treatment expectations. Reinforce ethical recommendations and appropriate professional boundaries. Coach students on treatment planning, client communication, service execution, rebooking, home-care recommendations, retail, and client retention. Help students develop the technical skills, confidence, judgment, and professional behaviors expected by employers. Incorporate employability and career-readiness skills into instruction. Support Career Services initiatives and employment preparation activities. Licensure & Regulatory Preparation Prepare students for applicable state licensing or certification requirements. Incorporate state law, scope of practice, sanitation, safety, theory, and practical examination concepts into instruction. Reinforce the distinction between services permitted within an Advanced Esthetician's scope of practice and services requiring another professional license or medical authorization. Maintain familiarity with applicable laws and regulations affecting advanced esthetic services. Reinforce the importance of practicing only within the scope permitted by the individual's professional license and jurisdiction. Support institutional efforts to achieve strong graduate licensure and employment outcomes. Classroom & Clinic Management Maintain an organized, professional, engaging, and student-focused learning environment. Establish clear classroom and clinic expectations and consistently reinforce them. Maintain appropriate classroom management and address disruptive or unprofessional student behavior. Ensure students remain actively engaged in educational activities during scheduled instructional time. Maintain appropriate control and accountability for products, supplies, equipment, tools, and student clinic materials. Ensure classrooms, laboratories, treatment areas, equipment, and clinic spaces remain clean, sanitary, safe, and professional. Monitor product and consumable usage and minimize unnecessary waste. Promptly report equipment problems, supply needs, safety concerns, or facility issues. Follow established procedures for student clinic services and equipment use. Student Records & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely attendance, grades, practical requirements, competency evaluations, and other required student records. Complete required documentation within established deadlines. Review student progress and identify missing academic, practical, or competency requirements. Maintain documentation supporting student coaching, academic interventions, and educational activities. Follow institutional policies and procedures and applicable accreditation, state, and regulatory requirements. Maintain student and client confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy requirements. Participate in accreditation visits, regulatory reviews, audits, and other compliance activities as required. Immediately communicate potential safety or compliance concerns to Education or campus leadership. Faculty & Campus Responsibilities Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, training, orientations, graduations, student events, and other campus activities as required. Collaborate with other instructors to maintain consistency in curriculum delivery, technical standards, safety practices, and student expectations. Work collaboratively with Education leadership, Student Services, Registrar, Financial Aid, Career Services, and campus leadership to support student success. Participate in curriculum reviews and instructional improvement initiatives. Maintain required professional licenses, certifications, and continuing education. Remain current with institutional policies, procedures, equipment protocols, and instructional expectations. Maintain professional communication and productive working relationships with students and employees. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Graduate of an approved Esthetician, Advanced Esthetician, or equivalent training program appropriate to the subjects being taught. Minimum of three (3) years of professional esthetics experience required. Must possess sufficient professional education, training, experience, and credentials to teach the advanced modalities included within the assigned curriculum. Must meet all additional faculty qualification requirements established by the applicable state licensing agency, accrediting agency, and Milan Institute. Previous professional experience performing advanced esthetic services strongly preferred. Previous teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience preferred. Current or recent industry experience strongly preferred. Certification & Licensing Must hold and maintain the professional license, Advanced Esthetician license, Instructor license, certification, or other credential required by the state in which instruction is provided. Must meet applicable state requirements to provide instruction in the specific advanced modalities assigned. Must maintain all required continuing education and license or certification renewals. Instructor licensure or certification must be obtained and maintained when required by applicable state law. Additional manufacturer, equipment, laser, safety, or advanced modality certifications may be required based on curriculum and jurisdiction.
