A Funeral Director or Embalmer manages a funeral home business. Directs details of funerals and burials, provides services according to the cultural or religious preferences of families and files paperwork for death certificates. May perform or supervise embalming services to prepare bodies for burial.
Candidates must hold an active North Carolina Funeral Director or Funeral Service license at the time of application. Candidates currently licensed in another state may also be considered if their license qualifies for North Carolina licensure through reciprocity. This position is not intended for individuals who have not yet completed the licensing process. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Funeral Manager to oversee the daily operations of a funeral home in North Carolina. This role is responsible for staff leadership, family service, funeral operations, regulatory compliance, community relationships, and overall location performance. Key Responsibilities Manage daily funeral home operations and service quality. Serve as the funeral establishment's licensed manager. Lead, schedule, coach, and support funeral home employees. Coordinate funerals, visitations, memorial services, burials, and cremation services. Assist families with funeral arrangements when needed. Maintain accurate records, contracts, authorizations, and case documentation. Oversee vendors, expenses, accounts receivable, facilities, vehicles, and equipment. Address family concerns with professionalism and compassion. Build relationships with churches, cemeteries, hospice providers, hospitals, coroners, and community partners. Ensure compliance with North Carolina funeral service laws and licensing requirements. Perform funeral directing, removals, embalming, or other licensed duties when qualified and needed. Qualifications Active North Carolina Funeral Director or Funeral Service license, or an active license in another state that qualifies for North Carolina reciprocity. North Carolina embalmer license or Funeral Service license when embalming duties are required. Degree from an accredited mortuary science or funeral service program. Five or more years of funeral service or funeral home operations experience. At least one year of supervisory or management experience. Strong leadership, customer service, sales, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage employees, schedules, operations, family concerns, and performance matters. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as needed. Preferred Qualifications Previous funeral home management experience. Experience with budgeting, vendor management, community outreach, or business development. $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
