Position Summary The Funeral Director - Embalmer is responsible for supporting the preparation, care, and presentation of decedents in accordance with Company standards, applicable laws, and professional expectations. This role primarily focuses on embalming and preparation room operations supporting multiple funeral home locations served through a centralized prep room model. In addition to embalming responsibilities, all Funeral Directors, including those primarily assigned to embalming functions, are expected to support broader funeral home operations based on business needs. This may include meeting with families, assisting with funeral services, removals, operational support, and other licensed Funeral Director responsibilities as assigned. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, attention to detail, technical expertise, compassion, and flexibility in supporting both operational and family service needs. Key Responsibilities Embalming & Preparation Room Operations Perform embalming, restorative art, dressing, casketing, cosmetology, and preparation of decedents in accordance with professional standards and applicable regulations Ensure proper handling, identification, care, and tracking of decedents throughout the preparation process Maintain cleanliness, organization, sanitation, and readiness of the preparation room and related equipment Ensure compliance with OSHA, public health, safety, and funeral service regulations Support inventory management and ordering of embalming and preparation room supplies Coordinate preparation room activities supporting multiple funeral home locations within the market Funeral Director Responsibilities Meet with families to arrange funeral and memorial services as needed based on operational demands Coordinate and direct funeral, memorial, visitation, graveside, and cremation services Complete required documentation accurately and timely, including permits, authorizations, death certificates, and compliance-related records Participate in removals and transfers of decedents as needed Provide compassionate and professional support to families throughout the funeral process Operational Support Collaborate effectively with funeral home staff, leadership, and support teams across multiple locations Support on-call rotations, evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as needed by the business Maintain a high standard of professionalism, appearance, and service excellence Assist with training and mentorship of newer staff members as appropriate Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Active Funeral Director and/or Embalmer license as required by applicable state law Strong embalming, restorative art, and technical preparation skills Knowledge of OSHA, public health, and funeral service compliance requirements Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities and support multiple locations simultaneously Compassionate and professional communication skills Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment Ability to adapt to changing operational and staffing needs Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required Physical Requirements The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift for extended periods of time Ability to lift, move, push, or pull decedents and equipment with or without assistance Ability to safely operate removal equipment, embalming equipment, and preparation room tools Ability to work in preparation room environments involving exposure to chemicals, bodily fluids, and varying temperatures Ability to travel between multiple funeral home locations as needed Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely Work Schedule This position is generally scheduled full-time hours; however, flexibility is required based on business and family service needs. Evening, weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities may be required.
