This position offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, professional care to families while maintaining a high degree of independence and scheduling flexibility. In this role, you will provide backup coverage for families and active cases, assist with funeral arrangements, coordinate memorial and funeral services, and ensure the respectful care of the deceased. Your expertise and guidance will help families navigate difficult times with dignity, compassion, and confidence. Additional Opportunity Details This opportunity is based on availability and is ideal for licensed professionals seeking flexible assignments. Phone coverage, family follow-up, and case-related administrative communications may often be managed remotely. In-person availability is required for arrangements, family conferences, visitations, funeral and cemetery services, and other assigned duties as needed. All funeral directing services will be performed through the registered funeral firm and in full compliance with New York State regulations. Duties Answer and return family calls Respond to new at-need inquiries Gather case and decedent information Explain immediate next steps to families Conduct arrangements when needed Assist with authorizations and case documentation Follow up with families Provide coverage for direct services, funerals, cemetery services, or other assignments as needed Be willing to travel within NYC, including the Bronx and Brooklyn, when assignments require it Skills Compassionate customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with grieving families Experience in bereavement support to guide families through their loss empathetically Strong knowledge of New York State funeral regulations and documentation requirements Experience in case management, task tracking and meeting deadlines Excellent organizational skills and ability to take ownership of cases from start to finish Familiarity with funeral event planning Applicants should submit the items below to: Resume NYS license/registration information General availability Areas willing to travel Current freelance rate sheet Brief summary of experience handling families and funeral arrangements
