Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the EVS Supervisor and the EVS Lead Technician, and the general supervision of the Chief Operating Officer; this position assists in the distribution of clean linens to all designated departments. Responsible for maintaining a sufficient supply of clean linen inventory to meet hospital needs. Accomplish Environmental Services Department's strategic objectives by participating in planning, organizing, and overseeing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services. Safeguards and maintains all confidential and privileged information. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Follows all established linen department procedures and Infection Control Guidelines. Works in an assigned location/station. Responsible for inspecting, weighing, quickly fold, and package clean linen (on rotation). Responsible for stocking clean linen carts with the appropriate par levels of each department. Demonstrates understanding of "clean linen" and where it is kept. Document all emergency deliveries. Maintain daily disinfection of all exchange and floor carts used to distribute linen. Maintains linen shelves in neat and orderly manner. Maintains clean, dust free shelving. Maintains the orderliness and cleanliness and environment of the Linen Room, purpose of disinfecting. This would include in some cases dusting and wet mopping the floors. Understand and maintain use of standard precautions. Practice proper hand-washing procedures. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment. Frequently changes gloves to eliminate cross-contamination. Understands isolation precautions and signage. Reports linen shortages immediately and prepares quotes for linen ordering. Delivering clean linen carts to units/floors in a timely fashion. Record data utilizing the appropriate method (i.e. tablets, order sheets) Responsible for segregation of clean linen. Responsible for back-up coverage and for assisting in the training of new co-workers as required. Responsible for unloading all Commercial Laundry carts, placing linen neatly on clean designated shelves in a timely manner to prevent wrinkling of linen. Manage in-house inventory levels of reserve linen. Handle all routine duties and special requests for linen. Problems solve quickly to address departments running out of Linen Develop and maintain linen policy and procedures (Example- A department goes above linen usage) is the EVS Supervisor contacted if linen supplies are not sufficient in the inventory room?). Converse with laundering vendor. Note if there are any special needs. Collaborate on issues, inventory levels, and transport of soiled linen. Ability to operate Side-by- Side Mobile Unit to transport Linen as needed. Properly report accidents before the end of shift. Protect patient confidentiality. Routinely manage the changing of inventory of the "Emergency Response Cart." Perform minor sewing repairs on linen. Maintain all clean linen and soiled linen logs for compliance. Ability to load and unload linen onto hand trucks, lifts, dollies, and/or commercial trucks. Prepare solutions with proper dilution ratios. Properly label secondary containers and understand safety hazards of mixing chemicals. Ability to operate commercial washer and dryer for laundering. Attends in-services, departmental meetings, and other meetings, as required. Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma. Six (6) months of progressive work experience in textile management, laundry or housekeeping, or similar position requiring similar techniques within healthcare preferred. Must possess a valid state driver's license and have a clean driving record to ensure coverage of company insurance during employment. Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Clearance requirements and background investigation.Knowledge, Abilities, Skills and Certifications:
Ability to work under stress and firm deadlines. Should possess a sense of direction/knowledge of area of work. Must possess exceptional customer service skills. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills. Must have knowledge and possess basic computer skills. Ability to utilize basic math such as addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. Ability to work well with Supervisors, Leads, co-workers patients, visitors and members of the facility. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to be supervised. Ability to work independently. Ability to have positive and professional interactions with staff, vendors and visitors. Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way. Knowledge of applicable Arizona Department of Health and The Joint Commission regulations. Knowledge of company personnel policies and procedures. Knowledge of standardized housekeeping techniques. Knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and cleaning solutions. Knowledge of applicable infection control and safety procedures. Knowledge of chemical safety and utilization of Safety Data Sheets.Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and/or move bulky loads weighing up to 100 lbs. Ability to remain in a stationary position and walk for long periods of time. Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, and position self to clean and repair equipment at heights of floor to 6 feet. Regularly carry, stack and unstack of equipment. The ability to grip, grasp and have fine motor skills. Regularly requires multi-limb coordination, hand to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls to inspect, clean, move, open and close equipment. The ability to bend, stretch, crawl, squat, push, pull, stoop, twist, turn and reach. Ability to regularly utilize close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus controls to inspect and clean equipment.Work Environment:
The majority of the job tasks are performed indoors in a climate that may or may not be controlled. There is regular use of strong cleaning and disinfecting solutions with Safety Data Sheets and personal protective equipment supplied.
