Job Description

The Laundry Worker performs a variety of duties related to the collection, washing, drying, folding, and distribution of hospital linens, gowns, uniforms, and other laundry items. This position ensures that all textiles are processed according to hospital standards for cleanliness and infection prevention, maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Collects, transports, weighs, records and washes soiled linen from hospital departments. Folds and distributes clean linen to maintain an adequate supply in all areas. Cleans work/supply carts, equipment and exchange carts. Cleans assigned work areas and disposes of refuse. Inspects linen for any stain, holes or breaks in the material. Removes all strings, lint and loose materials from the linen. Mends any linen needing repair, either by iron-on patches or sewing, making certain there are no needle holes in a vital part of the material. Maintains and checks mending boxes on a collection schedule. Processes specialty linen appropriately. Maintain cleanliness and organization of laundry area, including equipment and work surfaces.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Good communication and teamwork skills. Able to adjust to changing priorities, workloads, and department needs. Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently independently with ability to assist with heavier weights (100+ pounds) with team lift or mechanical equipment. Frequent exposure to heat, humidity, and noise from laundry machinery. May be exposed to biohazardous materials and chemicals; personal protective equipment (PPE) required. Able to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day), and frequently sit, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch throughout the workday. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, including but not limited to sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items. Must be able to perform the primary duties and responsibilities of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Able to work 5 days a week sometimes a 6AM shift other times a 9AM shift. Able to work weekends and certain holiday.
Compensation:
