About Kaizen Beauty Kaizen Beauty is seeking a talented, dependable, and customer-focused Licensed Nail Technician to join our busy and growing salon in Downtown Baltimore. Our salon is committed to providing consistent, high-quality nail services with a strong emphasis on natural nail health, sanitation, and superior customer service. We welcome both walk-in clients and scheduled appointments, so the ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment while providing every guest with attentive, personalized care. This is a W-2 employee position , not an independent contractor or booth-rental opportunity. The selected technician must be available to work an established and reliable weekly schedule. Responsibilities Perform high-quality manicures, gel manicures, acrylic enhancements, Gel-X extensions, structured gel services, and pedicures with precision and care Apply, shape, maintain, and safely remove nail enhancements using professional techniques and salon-approved safety protocols Perform structured gel applications, including builder gel, hard gel, rubber base, and similar systems Evaluate clients' nails and recommend services that promote long-term nail health Use knowledge of color theory to recommend polish shades, color combinations, and nail art designs that complement each client's style, preferences, and skin tone Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, explain service options, and provide personalized recommendations Educate clients on proper nail care, service maintenance, and aftercare Recommend and sell appropriate retail products, including nail-care, hand-care, foot-care, and skincare products, to support client results and contribute to salon revenue Deliver a welcoming, professional, and consistent experience to both walk-in and appointment-based clients Manage service times efficiently without sacrificing quality, sanitation, or client care Maintain clean, disinfected, and properly organized tools, equipment, and workstations Follow all salon sanitation procedures, safety protocols, and Maryland State Board requirements Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of shared salon areas Build positive client relationships that encourage retention, referrals, and repeat visits Stay current on nail-industry trends, techniques, products, and safety practices Participate in ongoing education, training, and skills development Support salon promotions, service recommendations, and other efforts that contribute to the salon's continued growth Required Qualifications Current and valid nail technician or cosmetology license recognized by the State of Maryland Demonstrated proficiency in: gel polish, regular polish, acrylic, Gel-X, structured gel applications (including builder gel, hard gel, and rubber base), manicures, and pedicures Willingness and ability to perform pedicures as a regular part of the position Working knowledge of color theory and the ability to make thoughtful polish and design recommendations Strong knowledge of sanitation, disinfection, and safe product-application and removal practices Ability to work a consistent, set weekly schedule, including designated peak days or hours Comfortable serving both walk-in clients and scheduled appointments Ability to lift and carry at least 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation Ability to pass a satisfactory background check, consistent with applicable law Willingness to recommend and sell products and services that appropriately meet clients' needs Commitment to ongoing education and staying current with industry trends Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is: Dependable, punctual, and consistent Friendly, welcoming, and genuinely committed to excellent customer service Professional in appearance, communication, and conduct Detail-oriented and proud of producing clean, consistent work Comfortable discussing products, upgrades, and service recommendations without using high-pressure sales tactics Able to remain calm, organized, and efficient during busy periods Skilled at listening to clients and translating their preferences into suitable services and designs Comfortable receiving coaching, participating in training, and continuing to develop professionally Respectful of clients, coworkers, and people from diverse backgrounds Team-oriented and willing to contribute to a positive, supportive salon environment Honest, accountable, and able to follow salon policies and service standards Enthusiastic about building a loyal clientele and growing with the salon Compensation and Employment Structure W-2 employee position Weekly commission-based pay Consistent, established work schedule Access to both walk-in traffic and scheduled appointments Opportunity to build a clientele and grow with a busy, expanding salon Commission details and any applicable guaranteed wages will be discussed during the interview process. Salon-Provided Supplies and Equipment Kaizen Beauty provides the professional products, disposable items, and general supplies needed to complete salon services. Nail technicians are responsible for supplying and maintaining their own: Professional metal implements E-file Drill bits All technician-provided tools must be in good working condition and comply with salon sanitation procedures, safety protocols, and Maryland State Board requirements.
