Evening classes (2-3 hours) for 6-8 weeks

In-person (Hoboken or Jersey City, accessible by PATH) About Jersey Improv Lab Jersey Improv Lab is launching a new comedy workshop program for adults in Hoboken and Jersey City. We create beginner-friendly experiences for adults who want to unlock their creativity, find their timing, and meet like-minded locals. We're growing fast! Our first Intro to Improv workshop sold out 30 days before its start date. We're now expanding into stand-up comedy writing workshops. We handle the heavy lifting (marketing, registration, and logistics) so you can focus entirely on teaching. The Role We are seeking a seasoned Stand-Up Comedy Writing Instructor to lead a 6-8 week beginner workshop. Most students will arrive with little or no comedy experience. Your role will be to guide them through the fundamentals of stand-up writing and help them turn what they want to say into strong premises and jokes. If the first workshop is successful, we plan to launch a second course focused on refining material and developing a 3-5 minute set for performance. Instructors will design their own curriculum within a beginner stand-up writing framework. Class Details 6-8 week intensive (2-3 hours per session) One weekday evening per week after 6 PM (exact day TBD) 10-15 adult students (Capped for quality) Goal is for each student to develop a tightly written 3-5 minute set Responsibilities Design a 6-8 week course curriculum Lead the workshop; help students find their voice, introduce them to different types of comedy, teach joke structure, premise development, and the "why" behind what's funny Run dynamic writing exercises and constructive group feedback sessions Foster a "brave space" where beginners feel safe to take risks Arrive ready to go and wrap sessions on time Share brief feedback after each class with the program owner on what worked well and what could be improved as we continue refining the workshop. What We're Looking For You've taught stand-up writing before.
