Job Description

This is one job across two businesses with opposite seasons

  • and our first choice is a massage therapist who does not want to stop doing massage. The Rooftop Lounge is busiest when Durango is full
  • summer, when the town triples and the patio does not empty until it is dark.

The spa and medspa fill up the other half of the year, when the mountain opens and everyone comes back indoors. So the person we are hiring schedules bar staff through the summer and spa staff through the winter, and spends the shoulder seasons getting ahead of whichever one is coming. The job has a rhythm rather than a routine, and that is the appeal of it or it is not. What we would most like to find is a licensed massage therapist who keeps about 20 hours a week on the table and runs the business the rest of the time

  • ideally someone from the medical or clinical side of massage rather than the spa-relaxation side.

You keep your hands in the work and the tips on the services you perform. That is a preference, not a requirement: if you are the right manager and you have never given a massage, apply anyway. There is somewhere to go from here, and it is the reason the medical background matters. River's Edge is not only a spa

  • there is a medical practice on the other side of the building, run by Ashley Sutton, FNP-MSN, doing injectables, peptides, hormone work and lasers.

Someone who arrives understanding clinical work, charting and why the protocol exists can move toward that side over time. We would rather grow that person than hire one later. The second half of the job matters more than the first. We have grown faster than our processes have. Some of how we work is written down and followed; plenty of it still lives in one person's head and breaks the week they are away. We are looking for someone who notices that, writes the thing down, teaches it, and then holds people to it

  • a process that is actually used, not a binder nobody opens.

And it is people, not just rotas. Hiring alongside us, running the day to day on the floor, and having the awkward conversation while it is still small. Two honest notes. These are two separate businesses with separate books, not one business with two rooms, and you will be expected to keep them straight. And Durango is a town of about 19,000 in southwest Colorado

  • smaller than wherever you are now, winters are real, and the nearest big airport is not close.

In exchange you get a genuinely broad job with the owners in the building, not a district manager two states away.

WHAT THE JOB IS

Own the schedule for both venues

  • bar staff through the summer, spa and medspa staff through the winter Hire ahead of each season instead of scrambling into it, and keep the shoulder months covered Keep roughly 20 hours a week on the table if you are a licensed massage therapist
  • your own book of clients, kept Write down how we actually do things, then keep the written version true as we change Run the day to day on the floor: shift changes, call-offs, opening and closing standards Onboard, train and manage the team, and handle the difficult conversation early Hold both businesses to the same standard without pretending they are the same business Keep the two sets of books clean•staff, hours and supplies land against the business that incurred them Bring the owners problems with a proposal attached, and own what you propose
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Preferred:

a current Colorado massage therapy license, and the wish to keep practising about 20 hours a week

Preferred:

a medical or clinical massage background

  • rehabilitation, injury, post-surgical or physician-referred work rather than resort relaxation Experience running a team somewhere with shifts, tips and real turnover
  • spa, salon, hospitality, restaurant or retail Scheduling that was genuinely yours, ideally against seasonal or swinging demand The temperament to write a process down and the spine to enforce it once it exists An interest in the medical side of the practice, because there is a path into it for the right person Comfortable in software, because we run on it: Boulevard, Toast, Airtable, Slack and a staff portal we build in-house Available across both seasons•this is not a summer-only or a winter-only job Colorado work eligibility; for the Rooftop side, a food-handler and alcohol-server certification or the willingness to get both
PAY AND TERMS

Starting base of $52,000 a year, with commission on retail sales and tips on the services you perform on top. One week paid time off.
