General Manager - Sales, Operations & Experience Portsmouth, New Hampshire | Founding Leadership Role Role type: Hands-on founding leadership role Reports to:
Franchise Owner Location:
Portsmouth, NH Team:
Front desk + treatment staff The Opportunity The TOX Portsmouth is opening a five-room wellness studio built around a simple idea: exceptional service should translate into loyal clients, recurring memberships, strong referrals, and a disciplined, well-run business. We are looking for a hands-on General Manager who can help take the studio from pre-opening through launch and then own the day-to-day operation with increasing autonomy. This is not a desk-only, marketing-only, or customer-service-only position. The GM owns the full studio system: people, sales, client experience, schedules, labor, operating standards, local community activation, reporting, and results. What You Will Own
- Translate the pre-opening plan into a practical workplan covering hiring, training, schedules, systems, inventory, launch events, and opening readiness.
- Recruit, onboard, schedule, coach, and lead the front-of-house team and licensed treatment staff.
- Run the studio's daily sales cadence and build a culture in which service naturally leads to rebooking, memberships, referrals, and retention.
- Own day-to-day studio operations: opening/closing, appointment flow, room readiness, staff coverage, timekeeping, payroll inputs, supplies, laundry, inventory, and service recovery.
- Build schedules that reflect demand, treatment-room capacity, staff availability, training needs, and labor targets.
- Monitor revenue, bookings, conversion, rebooking, retention, utilization, labor, reviews, and other core KPIs; identify underperformance early and turn data into action.
- Create a high-expectation, high-support team culture with clear standards, direct coaching, documentation, and accountability.
- Develop referral and partnership relationships across the Seacoast wellness, fitness, hospitality, medical-adjacent, and local-business community. What Success Looks Like
- A launch-ready studio with the people, systems, schedules, training, inventory, and controls required to open confidently.
- A strong pre-opening Founding Member pipeline supported by disciplined follow-up, local partnerships, events, and conversion activity.
- A unified front-of-house and treatment team that delivers consistent service and understands its role in the client journey.
- Reliable visibility into revenue, bookings, labor, membership conversion, rebooking, retention, reviews, and client concerns.
- A premium, welcoming client experience that drives repeat visits, referrals, and long-term membership.
- Steady progress toward strong room utilization, disciplined labor management, client retention, and profitable operations. Qualifications
- Approximately 3-7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in boutique fitness, wellness, spa/medspa, hospitality, premium retail, or another high-touch customer business.
- Demonstrated experience hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and managing performance for a customer-facing team.
- Comfort with sales goals, revenue targets, follow-up discipline, and KPI accountability; able to coach selling as education and guidance rather than pressure.
- Strong operational discipline and willingness to personally own detailed, repetitive, and sometimes unglamorous work.
- Working ability with scheduling systems, CRM/POS platforms, spreadsheets, dashboards, email, and digital collaboration tools.
- Basic financial fluency: able to understand revenue, labor, utilization, controllable expenses, and operating performance.
- Excellent communication, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and follow-through.
- Availability for regular weekend and some evening presence, especially during pre-opening, launch, and peak periods.
Licensure - Strongly Preferred Professional treatment licensure is not required to apply for the General Manager role. However, current New Hampshire esthetics or cosmetology licensure is strongly preferred. Candidates who are dual-licensed in esthetics and massage therapy are especially encouraged to apply. Any treatment services personally performed by the GM would require the appropriate New Hampshire license and completion of required TOX training. Ideal Leadership Profile
Operator:
creates order, builds routines, catches details, follows through, and keeps the studio ready.
- Sales leader: owns the numbers, coaches the team, and turns strong service into rebooking, membership, and retention.
- People manager: builds trust, gives direct feedback, develops talent, and protects standards.
- Community builder: represents the business with warmth and credibility and helps make the studio part of the Seacoast community.
Compensation & Growth Competitive base compensation plus performance incentives. Pre-opening hours will begin part-time and ramp toward full-time as launch approaches. Compensation will reflect management experience, relevant professional licensure, and ability to lead a sales-forward wellness operation. The role includes performance upside tied to launch readiness, revenue, membership growth, rebooking, retention, labor management, and client experience. How to Apply Please submit a resume and a brief note describing the customer-facing operation you have led most directly, the size of the team you managed, and any current New Hampshire professional licenses you hold. Qualified candidates will be contacted for an initial conversation. The TOX Portsmouth is independently owned and operated. We are an equal opportunity employer and consider qualified applicants without regard to any status protected by applicable law.
