Job Description
STITCHER/WARDROBE
Overhire Contract Pay, Seasonal, hourly $19 - 22/hr., depending on experience A Noise Within (ANW) in Pasadena performs and produces classical theatre as an essential means for our community to confront the universal human experience, expand personal awareness, and challenge individual perspectives. We seek an experienced Stitcher/Wardrobe Overhire to join our ambitious and growing organization. This professional Equity company produces 6 mainstage productions including A Christmas Carol each season.Overview:
The Stitcher/Wardrobe Overhire is responsible for assembling garment pieces according to the Costume Shop Manager, Cutter/Draper, and Costume Designer. Ability to sew (machine and hand sew), alterations, and assist with wardrobe notes during the season. Complete construction of garments to a point for costume fitting with actors so that CSM can make notes for alterations and trim. Stitcher/Wardrobe Overhire is also responsible for assisting CSM and First Hand with final details to garment pieces prior to first preview, maintenance during performances, and assisting with strike at the end of the show's run. Stitcher/Wardrobe Overhire reports to the Costume Shop Manager.Responsibilities:
- Altering & tailoring of garments per the instruction of the CSM, Cutter/Draper, and/or the Costume Designer.
- Hand sewing items such as closures, appliques, trims, labels as needed per production
- Assisting in the construction of costume garments per direction of the CSM.
- Assist the First Hand in installing labels to all costume garments before the first preview.
- Supporting CSM and First Hand in taking actor measurements, fitting notes, and shop organization/cleanliness.
- Repair costume garments during dress rehearsals, and during performances.
- Assist CSM and First Hand with "Strike" upon the close of each production run.
- Adhere to Costume Shop Safety Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Costume Shop procedure of sanitization of garments prior to the next performance, during a show's run.
- Washing, drying, and sanitizing costumes during production run.
- Press & steam garments, as instructed by the CSM before a performance.
Experience:
- 1-5 years experience as a sewer or tailor sewing garments in professional theatre, or in garment construction in the fashion industry.
- Sewing experience with machinery (industrial & domestic)
- Working knowledge in the theatrical industry is important but not mandatory.
- Attention to detail and ability to work on your own without much supervision, after tasks/notes have been given.
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Ability to stay on task either in busy or slow working environments.
- Ability to lift/move 20lbs - 40lbs
