About Sewista Studio Sewista Studio is a creative sewing and fashion studio where kids learn to sew, design, problem-solve, and bring their ideas to life. Our goal goes beyond completing a project. We help students develop real sewing skills, creativity, confidence, independence, and an appreciation for craftsmanship and making things by hand. About the Role We are looking for an experienced sewing instructor who is a teacher at heart and a natural leader. This is not an entry-level sewing position. We are looking for someone with strong hands-on sewing knowledge and significant teaching experience who is comfortable taking ownership of a classroom. Our students are primarily ages 7-11. You should be able to confidently lead a group, explain techniques clearly, recognize when a student needs help, and troubleshoot the many things that can come up during a class — from sewing machines and project challenges to different learning styles, personalities, and behavior. We value a teaching style that combines confidence, patience, warmth, and clear expectations. We want students to feel supported while also learning to problem-solve and work independently. What You'll Do Lead sewing classes and creative programs for children, primarily ages 7-11 Teach machine sewing, hand sewing, garment construction, and related techniques Confidently manage and troubleshoot the classroom, including equipment, project challenges, student behavior, and group dynamics Guide students with patience while encouraging independence and creative problem-solving Help with preparing materials and projects and maintain a safe, organized, productive studio environment Who We're Looking For The right candidate will have: Strong practical sewing skills and a solid understanding of garment construction Significant experience teaching children and independently managing a classroom or group The confidence to lead, make decisions, and handle challenges as they arise Excellent communication, organization, and reliability A genuine interest in teaching and helping children develop skills and confidence An interest in becoming a meaningful, long-term part of a growing creative studio Education or professional experience in fashion design, sewing, textiles, art education, costume design, apparel construction, or a related field is a plus. Requirements Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Must be able to work in person at Sewista Studio Must pass a background check prior to employment Strong sewing skills and prior teaching experience are required
Schedule & Compensation Job Type:
Part-time / Contract The position will begin with part-time hours, but there is strong potential for considerably more hours and responsibility as we get to know each other and the role develops. We are especially interested in finding someone who would like to grow with the studio.
