POSITION REQUIRES SEAMSTRESS & LEATHER REPAIR EXPERIENCE
Position Summary Huntington Cleaners is seeking an experienced Seamstress - Leather & Garment Repair Specialist to join our production team. This position is responsible for performing high-quality alterations, repairs, and restoration services on a wide variety of garments, with a strong emphasis on leather, suede, specialty fabrics, and delicate or high-value items . The ideal candidate will have advanced sewing and garment-repair skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to evaluate garments and determine the appropriate repair or alteration method. Experience working with leather and specialty materials is highly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform professional alterations, repairs, and modifications to men's, women's, and children's garments. Perform sewing repairs on a variety of fabrics, including cotton, wool, silk, synthetic materials, and specialty textiles. Repair and alter leather and suede garments , including jackets, coats, pants, skirts, and other leather items. Replace or repair zippers, buttons, snaps, hooks, linings, pockets, seams, hems, and other garment components. Perform hemming, tapering, resizing, sleeve alterations, waist adjustments, and other standard garment alterations. Assess damaged garments and determine the appropriate repair technique and materials. Match thread, materials, colors, textures, and finishes as closely as possible to the original garment. Operate commercial and industrial sewing machines as well as appropriate specialty equipment. Work carefully with delicate, designer, vintage, and high-value garments. Complete repairs according to company quality standards and established production timelines. Inspect completed work to ensure proper fit, appearance, stitching, and overall quality. Identify garments requiring specialized treatment and communicate concerns to management before proceeding. Maintain an organized and clean work area and properly care for sewing equipment and tools. Follow all company procedures regarding garment handling, identification, quality control, and customer property. Work collaboratively with production and customer service teams to ensure customer expectations are met. Perform other duties related to garment repair and production as assigned. Required Qualifications Previous professional experience as a seamstress, tailor, alterations specialist, or garment repair technician . Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of garment alterations and repairs. Hands-on experience working with leather and/or suede is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of sewing techniques, garment construction, fabrics, and repair methods. Ability to operate sewing machines and other garment-repair equipment. Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship. Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair assignments. Ability to meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify potential issues with a garment and recommend an appropriate repair solution. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a dry-cleaning, textile restoration, tailoring, alteration, or garment-care environment . Experience repairing high-end, designer, vintage, or specialty garments. Advanced leather repair and alteration experience. Experience with industrial sewing machines. Experience replacing leather garment linings, zippers, panels, and hardware. Experience working with fur, suede, or other specialty materials. Physical Requirements Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing detailed sewing and repair work. Ability to frequently use hands and fingers for sewing, cutting, measuring, and handling garments. Ability to lift and move garments and materials as required. Ability to visually inspect detailed stitching, seams, fabric, and garment construction. Compensation Pay:
Competitive and commensurate with experience and demonstrated skill level. Candidates with substantial experience in leather repair and alteration, specialty garments, and high-end garment restoration may qualify for a higher rate of pay based on demonstrated proficiency.
