The Alteration Associate is responsible for delivering high-quality alteration services that enhance the customer's shopping experience and ensure proper garment fit. This position performs alterations on ready-to-wear and tailored merchandise while maintaining Dillard's quality standards, turnaround expectations, and commitment to exceptional customer service. The Alteration Associate partners with customers and store associates to provide expert garment fitting, alterations, and finishing services while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient alterations workspace.
Responsibilities Include:
Perform high-quality alterations on ready-to-wear and tailored garments in accordance with Dillard's standards. Accurately measure, fit, alter, repair, and finish garments to meet customer expectations. Operate alteration equipment including straight stitch machines, blind stitch machines, sergers, button machines, steam presses, boilers, and irons. Press garments before and after alterations to ensure a professional finished appearance. Consult with customers regarding alteration needs, garment fit, and recommended adjustments. Communicate alteration timelines and provide exceptional customer service throughout the process. Maintain accuracy while meeting established turnaround times and productivity expectations. Inspect garments before and after alterations to ensure quality workmanship. Maintain an organized, clean, and safe alterations workspace. Properly care for customer garments while in the alteration process. Collaborate with sales associates and store leadership to ensure a seamless customer experience. Assist with special orders, fittings, and additional alteration requests as needed. Follow all company policies and safety procedures. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in a commercial or industrial alterations environment required. Proficiency in both ready-to-wear and tailored garment alterations. Experience operating industrial sewing and pressing equipment. Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, tailoring techniques, and finishing methods. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple alteration requests while meeting deadlines. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Positive attitude and professional demeanor. Physical Requirements Regular attendance is required, including flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require. Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday. Ability to lift and carry garments and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements while sewing, pressing, and handling garments. Manual dexterity required to safely operate sewing machines, pressing equipment, and other alteration tools. Visual acuity required to inspect garments, perform detailed sewing work, and ensure quality craftsmanship. Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
