DanzForce Extreme (DFX) - Orlando, FL Part-Time / Contract Position DanzForce Extreme is looking for a creative, skilled, and dependable seamstress/costume designer to work with our competitive dance program. We are seeking someone who understands that competition costumes need to do more than look amazing—they need to fit beautifully, move with the dancer, hold up on stage, and help bring the choreographer's vision to life. This position may include designing and creating custom costumes from scratch, modifying existing costumes, and completing alterations for our competitive dancers. Responsibilities Design and create custom competition dance costumes based on concepts provided by DFX directors and choreographers Construct costumes for solos, duets, trios, small groups, and large group numbers Alter purchased or existing costumes for proper fit and performance Complete fittings and make necessary adjustments Work with a variety of fabrics and materials commonly used in dancewear, including stretch fabrics, mesh, lace, fringe, appliqués, rhinestones, sequins, trims, and specialty fabrics Modify costumes creatively when an existing costume needs to better match a choreographer's vision Add embellishments, appliqués, rhinestones, trims, or other finishing details when needed Work within established budgets and deadlines Communicate clearly with DFX directors regarding designs, materials, costs, fittings, and completion timelines Maintain organized measurements and costume information for dancers Complete alterations and repairs throughout competition season as needed Be available for occasional time-sensitive costume adjustments or repairs before performances and competitions We Are Looking For Someone Who... Has strong sewing, garment construction, and alteration skills Has experience creating costumes, dancewear, performance wear, theater costumes, formalwear, or similar garments Understands—or is willing to learn—the unique construction needs of competitive dance costumes Is comfortable working with stretch and specialty fabrics Has excellent attention to detail Is creative and able to take inspiration photos or a choreographer's idea and help turn it into a finished costume Can accurately measure and fit children, teens, and young adults Is dependable and able to meet firm deadlines Communicates well and is comfortable collaborating with directors, choreographers, dancers, and parents when appropriate Can manage multiple costume projects at different stages simultaneously Preferred Experience Experience in any of the following is a plus: Competitive dance costumes Figure skating costumes Cheerleading or gymnastics uniforms Theater or performance costumes Custom dancewear Bridal/formalwear alterations Rhinestoning and embellishment Pattern making or modifying existing patterns Costume design and sketching Schedule This is a part-time/contract position with hours varying throughout the dance season . Workload may increase during costume season and leading up to competitions and performances. Some fittings and meetings will take place at our studio in Orlando, Florida , so local availability is preferred. Compensation Compensation will be based on experience and may be structured hourly, per project, or per costume , depending on the scope of work and candidate experience.
