In-person Open Air Company is looking for a Sewing Specialist / Seamstress to join our growing production operation in Bryan, Texas. We're looking for someone who is comfortable using a sewing machine, takes pride in their work, and pays close attention to detail. You do NOT need previous cushion, upholstery, sling, or industrial sewing experience. If you've sewn clothing, made alterations, quilted, made curtains or drapes, worked with patterns, or simply have several years of sewing experience at home, we'd like to hear from you. If you already have experience with commercial cushions, outdoor furniture, upholstery, marine canvas, awnings, automotive upholstery, replacement slings, or industrial sewing, that's a plus. What You'll Be Making Open Air Company manufactures and restores outdoor furniture products for commercial properties including hotels, resorts, country clubs, apartments, and other hospitality properties. You'll learn to produce products such as: Outdoor Cushions Seat cushions Back cushions Chaise lounge cushions Throw pillows Replacement cushion covers Zippered cushion covers Cushions with welting/piping Velcro straps and tie-downs Custom-sized cushions Replacement Slings You'll also learn to manufacture replacement slings for outdoor sling furniture , including: Replacement chair slings Chaise lounge slings Sling fabric panels Custom-sized replacement slings Sewing and finishing sling edges Installing required hems, pockets, and attachments Working from measurements and templates The work requires accuracy because each piece needs to fit the furniture properly and meet our quality standards. What We're Looking For We're more interested in your sewing ability than your résumé. You may be a great fit if you: Know your way around a sewing machine Can sew clean, consistent seams Can accurately use a tape measure Can work from measurements, patterns, or templates Have good hand-eye coordination Pay close attention to details Take pride in the quality of your finished work Are willing to learn new sewing techniques Can work with different types of fabrics and materials Are dependable and able to work as part of a team Previous commercial cushion or sling experience is NOT required. We are willing to train someone who already has good sewing skills and the right attitude. Schedule This position will initially be part-time , with flexible daytime hours Monday through Friday. This can be a good opportunity for someone looking for part-time work while maintaining flexibility in their schedule. As our production operation grows, there may be opportunities for additional hours and/or full-time employment . Compensation $16.00-$25.00 per hour , depending on experience and demonstrated sewing ability. Candidates with commercial cushion, sling, upholstery, marine canvas, or industrial sewing experience may qualify toward the higher end of the pay range. Sewing Assessment Selected applicants may be invited to complete a paid sewing assessment so we can evaluate sewing skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and overall workmanship.
