Opa-locka, FL Job Details Full-time $16 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Manufacturing facility experience Warehouse experience Materials handling Manufacturing Hand tools Full Job Description Job Overview The Shop Helper supports the daily operations of the fabrication shop by assisting with material handling, organization, cleaning, basic fabrication tasks, and assembly work. This position helps maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient work environment while supporting fabricators and other shop personnel with production-related duties. The ideal candidate should have some previous shop or fabrication experience, be comfortable working in a hands-on industrial environment, and be willing to learn company procedures, equipment, materials, and production methods. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, move, organize, and stage materials used in the fabrication of elevator interiors and related products. Assist with loading and unloading materials, equipment, tools, and finished components within the shop. Maintain materials in designated storage areas and help keep inventory and work areas organized. Assist fabricators with basic preparation, assembly, measuring, positioning, and handling of components. Support the assembly of elevator interior panels, ceilings, trims, frames, and other fabricated components as directed. Prepare materials and work areas before fabrication or assembly begins. Clean workstations, machinery areas, shop floors, and common production areas. Remove scrap material, debris, packaging, and waste from work areas throughout the workday. Return tools, equipment, and materials to their proper locations after use. Help maintain clear walkways, work areas, emergency exits, and material storage areas. Assist with basic shop tasks using hand tools and approved equipment when properly trained and authorized. Follow job instructions, drawings, measurements, and directions provided by supervisors and skilled fabricators. Inspect materials for visible damage and immediately report problems or shortages to a supervisor. Assist with packaging and preparing completed components for delivery or installation when required. Handle company materials and equipment carefully to prevent damage and unnecessary waste. Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and shop rules. Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, equipment problems, workplace injuries, or material issues. Cooperate with supervisors, fabricators, installers, and other employees to meet production schedules. Perform other shop-related duties as assigned based on operational needs. Qualifications Some previous shop, fabrication, manufacturing, construction, warehouse, or similar hands-on experience is required. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic understanding of shop safety and proper material handling. Ability to use basic hand tools safely. Ability to read a tape measure is strongly preferred. Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Dependable attendance and punctuality are required. Willingness to learn fabrication methods, materials, tools, equipment, and company procedures. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the physical duties required in a fabrication-shop environment, with or without reasonable accommodation. The position requires the ability to: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required to perform essential job duties. Stand and walk for extended periods during the workday. Frequently bend, reach, crouch, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. Handle and move materials, tools, equipment, and fabricated components safely. Safely handle bulky or awkward materials using team lifting or appropriate material-handling equipment when necessary. Work around machinery, metal components, fabrication materials, noise, dust, and other typical industrial shop conditions. Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment. Employees must follow proper lifting and material-handling procedures at all times. Safety Responsibilities Safety is an essential responsibility of this position.

The Shop Helper must:

Wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, safety footwear, or other PPE required for the assigned task. Operate only tools or equipment for which the employee has been properly trained and authorized. Never remove, disable, or bypass machine guards or safety devices. Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards. Immediately report injuries, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and near-miss incidents to management. Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and supervisor instructions. Use proper lifting techniques and request assistance when handling heavy, oversized, or awkward materials. Work Environment This position is primarily performed in a fabrication and manufacturing shop.

Employees may be exposed to:

Other conditions typically associated with industrial fabrication and manufacturing environments. Employees are expected to remain alert, follow all safety procedures, and use required PPE while working in the shop.
