Job Description
Oven Builder Apprentice Full-Time | Maine Oven Craft | Skowhegan, ME Maine Oven Craft builds wood-fired ovens for people who care about food, fire, and craft. We're a small, skilled shop, and we hire carefully. We're looking for a full-time Oven Builder Apprentice with a real passion for making things and an interest in learning a hands-on trade the right way. This is a hands-on role with real responsibility from day one— and a path to becoming someone who can build ovens that become the centerpiece of a home or business. All of it matters. When we hire and train someone, it's a real investment — and so is your time. Our apprenticeship runs for one full year. Complete it and you earn the title of "Oven Builder", along with the skills [SB1] and experience to back it up. We're looking for someone whose interest in this work goes beyond the job title-- a genuine desire to learn, contribute, and grow with us.
Schedule & Pay Hours:
Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm (40 hours/week)Starting Pay:
$20.00/hr Increases based on: Experience, skill development, and certifications earned along the wayPath:
Apprentice → Oven Builder (typically 12 months) Responsibilities Masonry assembly, preparation, and layout Accurate measuring and daily use of basic math Use of hand and power tools Welding, grinding, and metal forming (training provided, experience preferred) Carpentry work for crates and templates Packing finished ovens and preparing shipments General shop and fabrication work What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has a genuine passion for hands-on work and learning by doing Brings good hand skills, practical common sense, and attention to detail Is curious, observant, and willing to ask good questions Shows up on time and works steadily throughout the day Works well as part of a small team where effort is visible Understands that time and energy matter in a real business Work Environment Full-time, on-site position in Skowhegan, ME Small, close-working, skilled team Physically demanding shop environment Shop dogs on premises We take our work seriously and expect the same from you Physical Demands This is a skilled labor position. You will regularly lift 25+ lbs, spend long hours on your feet, and work through tasks that are physically taxing day in and day out. Requirements Full-time availability (Mon-Fri, 7:00am-4:30pm) Valid driver's license with a clear driving record Ability to lift, carry, and work on your feet throughout the day 2 years hands-on experience preferred (welding, carpentry, other) High school diploma or equivalent Smoke-free campus Benefits Paid time off Flexible schedule Why We Ask What We Ask We're a small team.
