Job Description

Position Overview Animal Hospital of Centerton is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our team. This role supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality medical care to our patients while ensuring a positive experience for clients and their pets. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal care, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork skills. Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Handling Assist with restraint of animals during exams, treatments, and procedures Monitor patient comfort and report any concerns to veterinary staff Prepare animals for surgery and assist during procedures as directed Provide basic animal care including feeding, walking, and cleaning Clinical Support Prepare exam rooms, surgical areas, and medical equipment Assist veterinarians with examinations and treatments Lift and position animals safely Collect and prepare samples (blood, urine, fecal) as directed Maintain accurate patient records and documentation Client Interaction Greet clients and help create a welcoming, supportive environment Provide basic education to pet owners on care instructions (as directed by veterinarian) Assist with check-in/check-out processes when needed Facility Maintenance Clean and disinfect exam rooms, kennels, and workspaces Maintain cleanliness of surgical areas and equipment Stock supplies and monitor inventory levels Ensure hospital safety and sanitation standards are consistently met Qualifications Required Passion for working with animals Ability to lift and restrain animals (up to 50+ lbs with assistance) Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment Preferred Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, animal care, or kennel setting Knowledge of basic animal behavior and handling techniques Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures Skills & Competencies Compassion and empathy for both pets and owners Attention to detail and organizational skills Reliability and strong work ethic Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities Willingness to learn and grow within the veterinary field Work Environment Exposure to animals of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments Potential exposure to noise, odors, and cleaning chemicals Standing, bending, and lifting throughout the shift Schedule Full-time or part-time opportunities available Must be flexible, including availability for weekends or rotating shifts as needed Benefits Competitive pay based on experience Employee pet care discounts Paid training and development opportunities Supportive and team-oriented work environment Health, dental, vision, and life insurance

$16.00 - $20.00 per hour
