Job Description
Veterinary Assistant Job Description We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Sunset Veterinary Hospital . We are looking for someone who enjoys working with animals, takes pride in providing excellent patient care, and works well as part of a team. The ideal candidate is someone who is attentive to detail, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, enjoys learning new skills, and genuinely passionate about animal care. Schedule Part-time Full-Time Monday, Thursday and Friday availability required Responsibilities Safely and compassionately handle and restrain patients for examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and procedures. Administer vaccinations, medications, and other treatments as directed by the veterinarians. Prepare patients for surgery and procedures and assist with post-operative recovery. Collect and prepare samples and assist with diagnostic testing, including bloodwork, cytology, urinalysis, and radiographs. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures and promptly communicate changes in patient condition to the veterinarians. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary treatment environment, including exam rooms, kennels, treatment areas, and equipment. Assist with cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments and maintaining surgical equipment. Monitor inventory, restock supplies, and report equipment issues or supply shortages to technician leads. Work collaboratively with veterinarians and other team members to maintain efficient patient flow and a positive experience for both patients and clients. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Benefits Paid time off Employee discounts Physical Requirements Lifting up to 40 pounds. Spending most of the shift standing, kneeling, or bent over for procedures. Comfortable handling dogs and cats of varying sizes, ages, and temperaments. Comfortable handling exotic/pocket pets (reptiles, birds and rodents) Tolerating unpleasant and strong odors and sounds.
