This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is interested in expanding their veterinary skills and working with a diverse range of species beyond traditional canine and feline medicine. Our ideal candidate will have previous experience working with zoological companion animals or exotic species; however, exotics experience is not required . We are willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates a strong foundation in veterinary technical skills, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing their knowledge and abilities within zoological companion animal medicine. What We're Looking For Previous veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience with canine and feline patients is required as a foundation. Previous experience working with exotic, zoological companion, or non-traditional species is strongly preferred . Strong basic technical skills, including patient handling and restraint, obtaining and monitoring vitals, venipuncture, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, laboratory sample collection, and other routine technical duties. Comfortable working with patients of varying sizes, species, and temperaments. Willingness and ability to learn species-specific handling, husbandry, medical care, and technical procedures. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols. Ability to work collaboratively with veterinarians and the veterinary team. A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to patient care. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to recognize when assistance is needed and communicate effectively with the veterinary team. A genuine interest in learning and developing within the zoological companion animal field. About the Role This position will provide support to the veterinary team in the daily care and treatment of zoological companion animals. Responsibilities may include assisting with appointments and procedures, patient handling and restraint, anesthesia and recovery support, laboratory work, medication preparation and administration, maintaining medical records, assisting with husbandry and patient care, and maintaining a clean and organized clinical environment. Because many of the species we care for have unique medical, behavioral, and husbandry needs, this position offers an opportunity to develop specialized skills through hands-on training and mentorship . Training & Development Prior zoological/exotic animal experience is a strong plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Candidates should understand that while we can provide training in species-specific medicine, handling, and procedures, we are looking for someone who already possesses a solid foundation of canine and feline technical skills . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build upon their existing veterinary knowledge and develop proficiency in working with a variety of zoological companion animal species.
