Job Description

VetSurg is a referral based Veterinary Surgical Center that is seeking to fill an Overnight Veterinary Assistant position. This position is for 4/10hr shifts with a 30-minute meal period, Monday through Thursday. The salary range is $24 - $28 per hour and may be negotiable based on experience and credentials. VetSurg offers Medical, Vision, and Dental coverage for all full-time employees as well as a 401K after the 90 introductory period. PTO and sick pay accrual apply after this period as well.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in veterinary nursing or animal care is required. Strong attention to detail and excellent observational skills. Ability to work independently during overnight hours. Compassionate attitude toward animals and clients. Basic knowledge of reading and writing, math, computer skills, medication administration and patient monitoring is beneficial. Reliable, responsible, and able to follow detailed instructions.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Overnight Veterinary Assistant to support postoperative patient care during nighttime hours. The role involves monitoring stable surgical patients, administering scheduled treatments such as pain medications, antibiotics, and IV fluids, and assessing patient comfort and recovery. The assistant will perform routine tasks including checking incisions, applying ice packs, recording outputs from drains or catheters, and walking patients with assistance. This position offers an opportunity to gain experience in nursing care and postoperative monitoring in a calm, stable environment without emergency or technical procedures. Ideal for individuals interested in veterinary nursing and postoperative patient support.
Responsibilities:
Monitor postoperative patients' comfort and recovery through routine vital sign checks. Assess patients for pain, anxiety, and overall well-being. Administer prescribed medications and treatments as directed. Perform incision checks, bandage assessments, and apply ice packs when needed. Record outputs from urinary catheters, chest tubes, or drains. Assist in walking patients with sling support. Maintain accurate medical records and communicate concerns to the on-call veterinarian. Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the overnight shift.
