Job Summary The Veterinary Nurse Assistant plays a crucial supporting role at Cole Animal Clinic, working directly alongside our Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses to provide high-quality care to our patients. This position is a dynamic blend of direct animal handling, clinical preparation, facility maintenance, and client communication.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & Restraint:
Provide safe, compassionate restraint for dogs and cats during exams, blood draws, diagnostics, and treatments; assist with basic husbandry (feeding, walking, and kennel care).
Clinical & Surgical Support:
Prepare patients for procedures (weighing, shaving); clean, sterilize, and organize surgical instruments; assist with digital radiography and laboratory sample collection.
Facility Maintenance:
Maintain strict cleanliness and sanitation of exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery suites, and kennels; manage clinic laundry and ensure a clean, odor-free environment.
Pharmacy & Inventory Support:
Restock supplies in exam rooms, treatment areas, and the pharmacy; assist in tracking inventory levels.
Client Communication:
Greet clients warmly, assist with moving patients to exam rooms, and help deliver basic client education on preventative care and post-procedure discharge instructions.
Requirements & Qualifications Experience:
Prior experience working as an assistant in a veterinary hospital setting is highly preferred.
Skills:
Strong physical stamina with the ability to safely lift and restrain animals of various sizes (up to 50 lbs); ability to work on your feet for extended periods.
Attributes:
A positive, "never-say-no" attitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced medical environment.
Software/Tech:
Basic computer literacy is required. Familiarity with veterinary software (such as Covetrus Pulse) or inventory systems is a plus.
Reliability:
Dependable attendance and punctual, reliable transportation are absolute musts.
