Job Summary As a Veterinary Nurse at Cole Animal Clinic, you will perform high-level veterinary nursing care, working closely alongside our doctors to manage clinical cases, anesthesia, diagnostic procedures, and client education. You will play a central role in patient advocacy, safety, and maintaining the exceptional clinical standards our community relies on.
Key Responsibilities Anesthesia & Surgery:
Confidently induce, monitor, and recover patients for surgical and dental procedures; maintain highly detailed anesthesia logs and safely operate monitoring equipment.
Clinical Nursing:
Perform intravenous catheterization, blood draws (jugular and cephalic), cystocentesis, and administer prescribed fluid therapy and medications (IV, IM, SQ, PO).
Diagnostics & Lab Work:
Take high-quality digital radiographs (including dental); perform in-house laboratory diagnostics including urinalysis, fecal examinations, skin scrapings, and prepare reference lab samples.
Dentistry:
Perform dental scaling, polishing, and assist veterinarians with dental charting and oral surgical procedures.
Client Communication & Advocacy:
Discuss complex medical treatment plans, discharge instructions, and preventative healthcare recommendations with clients clearly and compassionately.
Pharmacy & Log Keeping:
Accurately dispense medications and strictly maintain controlled substance logs.
Requirements & Qualifications Experience:
Prior hands-on experience as a veterinary technician/nurse is required. Certification (CVT, LVT, RVT) is highly preferred, but highly experienced, non-credentialed veterinary assistants acting at a nurse level will be strongly considered.
Skills:
Exceptional animal handling and restraint techniques; strong proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and pharmacology calculations.
Attributes:
High emotional intelligence, strong critical thinking skills, a collaborative "team-player" mindset, and a great sense of humor.
Software/Tech:
Strong computer literacy is required. Familiarity with veterinary practice management systems (such as Covetrus Pulse) is highly valued.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand for extended periods, work comfortably in high-intensity situations, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Reliability:
Dependable attendance and punctual, reliable transportation are absolute musts.
