Job Description

The Veterinary Assistant provides comprehensive operational, clinical, and administrative support to the veterinary team. This role ensures accurate documentation, effective inventory management, timely processing of laboratory samples, and consistent follow-up on clinical and operational activities. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to supporting veterinary staff and maintaining high standards of patient care and compliance. Key Responsibilities Clinical and Case Support Review and analyze treatment sheets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper execution of prescribed protocols. Monitor and follow up on daily events, ensuring all relevant clinical activities are properly documented and addressed. Assist in preparing and supplying medications for both clinical and surgical procedures. Provide support to the veterinary team during clinical or operational contingencies as required. Laboratory and Sample Management Coordinate the collection, labeling, documentation, and shipment of blood and tissue samples to pathology laboratories. Ensure compliance with all applicable handling, storage, and shipping regulations for biological specimens. Inventory Management Maintain accurate inventory of medications and veterinary supplies, including routine audits and reconciliation. Receive, log, and organize new inventory within the designated storage system. Distribute medications and supplies efficiently to veterinary team members as needed. Documentation and Administrative Duties Maintain organized and up-to-date veterinary documentation, including proper filing and recordkeeping. Track and follow up on pending documentation to ensure timely completion and compliance. Monitor daily release lists and ensure all required processes are completed accurately and on time. Communication and Team Support Maintain a professional and collaborative attitude with all team members and departments. Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying and resolving team-related issues or conflicts. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues regarding task status, inventory needs, and case updates. Qualifications Previous experience in a veterinary, laboratory, or clinical support role preferred. Strong organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Proficiency in recordkeeping and inventory management systems is an asset.
