  • Full-time Full-Time Veterinary Assistant Orion Veterinary Clinic is a mixed-animal veterinary clinic serving the Quad City area.
We provide high-quality veterinary care for livestock, horses, and companion animals. We are currently seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced, growing practice. Our team includes two full-time veterinarians, an experienced technician, and assistants. The clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, and closed on Sundays. Patients are seen by appointment, with the exception of emergencies. Veterinary Assistants are expected to work a four-day workweek (7:15 am to 5:00 pm) and two Saturdays (7:45 am to 12:00 pm) per month.
Veterinary Assistant Duties Include:
Taking and recording vital signs Collecting stool samples Performing laboratory tests Sterilizing equipment Administering medications by various routes, including oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous Collecting and recording patient medical histories Trimming nails and grooming animals Feeding and walking animals Removing sutures and staples Cleaning wounds and changing dressings Providing compassionate care to patients Preparing and maintaining exam rooms, treatment areas, and vehicles Assisting doctors with medical and surgical procedures Preparing patients for surgery Assisting with anesthesia and monitoring patients during surgery and recovery Administering fluids Performing emergency procedures, including bleeding control, oxygen support, airway management, and external cardiac massage Safely restraining companion animals, livestock, and horses when necessary Performing clinical laboratory procedures, including fecal exams, heartworm tests, skin scrapings, ear cytology, urinalysis, and fungal cultures Drawing blood for laboratory analysis Recording lab results in patient records Taking radiographs Admitting and discharging patients under doctor direction Educating clients on animal care, medications, and at-home instructions Making follow-up calls to clients Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining surgical materials and the operating room Assisting other staff members as needed Maintaining positive, cooperative relationships with team members Performing dental prophylaxis Placing IV catheters Administering IV fluids Performing other duties as assigned Ideal candidates should be compassionate, dependable, team-oriented, and comfortable working with both large and small animals in a busy clinical setting.
