The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a willingness to understand veterinary practices. This role is essential in providing support to veterinarians and ensuring the well-being of animals in our care. The Veterinary Assistant will work closely with both the veterinary team and pet owners, contributing to a positive experience for all. About Us Public Vet is a nonprofit mobile veterinary organization. We bring high quality, high volume spay and neuter and basic medical care to communities that have no other access to it. We set up a full surgical unit in the morning, run up to 100 procedures in a 12 hour day, and break it down again at night. Our patients are cats, and the people who love them. We typically host our clinics in 3-day runs on either Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday schedules. Each clinic day lasts up to 12 hours, which includes the setting up and breaking down of our equipment at each location. Duties Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring a safe environment for both animals and staff. Handle and prep cats before and after surgery, demonstrating proficiency animal handling techniques. Moving animal crates and helping setup clinic equipment Administer medications as prescribed by veterinarians, following proper medication administration protocols. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including the use of aseptic techniques during procedures. Support animal husbandry practices by monitoring the health and behavior of animals in the clinic. Provide excellent customer service to pet owners, addressing their questions and concerns with empathy and professionalism. Requirements Must be able to work 12-hour days, which includes standing, squatting, and moving quickly Must be available to work weekends (typically a 3-day Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon work schedule) Clean driving history for the last 2 years Must be available to travel for work Hotel accommodations and travel stipends for overnight stays (typically 6-12 nights a month, depending on employee's work schedule) Experience This is an entry level position, so we welcome anyone interested in the veterinary field to apply.

Preferred qualifications include:

Background in veterinary field or working with animals is a plus. Familiarity with veterinary assistant duties and responsibilities is a plus. What you will learn Our training curriculum follows the standards required of veterinary support staff under USDA and state veterinary practice acts. Assistants who complete the first year in good standing move to senior assistant with expanded surgical support duties and a pay increase.
