About Us:
SNIP Spay & Neuter SNIP Spay & Neuter is a mission-driven, high-quality, high-volume (HQHV) spay/neuter clinic located in Portage, Indiana. Founded in 2021 as a mobile clinic and expanded into a permanent facility in 2024, we provide essential surgical services for pets and support local rescue and TNR organizations. The Role:
Kennel & Sterilization Assistant We are seeking a dependable, hardworking Kennel & Sterilization Assistant to join our team. This position focuses primarily on maintaining clean, safe patient housing, processing surgical instruments, and supporting the daily operations of our busy surgical clinic. You'll spend much of your day cleaning and disinfecting kennels, doing laundry, washing and preparing surgical instruments, and maintaining an organized clinical environment. This behind-the-scenes work directly supports patient safety and helps our veterinary team provide efficient, high-quality surgical care. The ideal candidate takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized workspace, enjoys staying busy, and can consistently follow established procedures. Previous veterinary experience is helpful but not required. We are happy to train someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and willing to learn. This full-time, on-site position offers predictable weekday hours, starting at 7:30 a.m., and the opportunity to work alongside an experienced veterinary team. What You'll Do Kennel Cleaning & Patient Housing Clean, disinfect, and prepare kennels and cages before, during, and after surgical procedures. Replace bedding and maintain clean, comfortable patient housing. Clean and disinfect kennel equipment, floors, and surrounding areas according to clinic protocols. Safely work around dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments. Promptly notify veterinary staff of any concerns observed while working around patients. Surgical Instrument Processing & Sterilization Wash, inspect, assemble, and wrap surgical instruments according to established procedures. Operate autoclaves and follow sterilization protocols. Maintain and monitor water distillation equipment used for instrument processing. Organize and restock surgical packs and supplies. Maintain a clean, organized instrument-processing area. Follow established procedures to ensure surgical instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized. Laundry & General Facility Cleaning Wash, dry, fold, and organize patient bedding, towels, surgical linens, and other laundry. Clean and disinfect treatment, recovery, and common areas. Empty trash and properly dispose of waste according to clinic protocols. Restock surgical, medical, and cleaning supplies throughout the clinic and maintain organized storage areas. Assist with additional cleaning and facility-maintenance tasks as needed. Teamwork & Safety Work closely with veterinary assistants, technicians, and other team members to maintain efficient daily operations. Follow sanitation, infection-control, and workplace safety protocols. Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. Assist coworkers with kennel and sterilization responsibilities during busy periods. Qualifications Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a consistent work schedule. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures. Comfortable working around dogs and cats. Willingness to perform repetitive cleaning, laundry, and instrument-processing tasks throughout the workday. Ability to work independently while remaining an active member of the team. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, kennel, grooming facility, or other animal-care environment is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work on your feet for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive cleaning and instrument-processing tasks. Comfortable working around animals, animal waste, cleaning chemicals, and used surgical instruments. Ability to work in a physically active environment throughout the day.
Compensation Starting pay:
