4 days per week | No weekends | No on-call A Unique Opportunity for a Veterinary Surgical Assistant or Technician Kentucky Veterinary Surgery is looking for an exceptional Veterinary Assistant or Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our small mobile specialty surgical team. This is a unique opportunity for someone who loves surgery but also wants an excellent quality of life. You will work directly alongside a board-certified veterinary surgeon, helping provide advanced orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery at veterinary hospitals throughout the Louisville and Lexington areas. And unlike many positions in veterinary medicine, this role offers: 4-day work week No weekends Get a 3 day weekend EVERY weekend! What Does "30 Hours Guaranteed" Mean? It means exactly that. Employees are guaranteed pay for at least 30 hours every week. If we finish our surgical schedule early, have a lighter week, the surgeon is on vacation, or KVS is closed for a scheduled break, you still receive your guaranteed 30 hours of pay and are not expected to come into the office simply to fill time. If you work more than 30 hours during a week, you are paid for the additional hours worked. About the Position Kentucky Veterinary Surgery is a mobile specialty surgical practice. Instead of patients traveling to a large referral hospital, our team travels to local veterinary clinics and performs advanced procedures within the patient's regular veterinary hospital. Our surgical caseload includes procedures such as: TPLO Patellar luxation correction Lateral suture stabilization Fracture repair Other orthopedic procedures Abdominal surgery Mass removals Advanced soft-tissue procedures This position provides an opportunity to become deeply involved in specialty surgery without the weekends, overnight shifts, and on-call responsibilities that often come with specialty practice. What You'll Do Preparing patients for surgery Preparing and organizing operating rooms Maintaining proper sterile technique Setting up surgical instruments and supplies Scrubbing into orthopedic and soft-tissue procedures Hands on Assisting the surgeon during surgery Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining surgical instruments Preparing equipment and supplies for each surgical day Maintaining organized surgical inventory and supplies Loading, unloading, and transporting surgical equipment Safely handling and positioning veterinary patients Helping the surgical team remain efficient and on schedule Communicating professionally with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, practice managers, receptionists, and pet owners Who We're Looking For Because KVS is a small team, work ethic, efficiency, attention to detail, and personality fit are extremely important. Our team may travel to several veterinary hospitals in the same day while performing multiple advanced procedures. We need someone who enjoys staying busy, works efficiently, can think ahead, and maintains excellent attention to detail while moving quickly. We work very hard - but we play hard too! Customer Service Is a Major Part of This Role The veterinary hospitals we visit are not simply places where we perform surgery — they are our partners and our customers. You will regularly interact with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, practice managers, receptionists, and occasionally pet owners. We want someone who represents Kentucky Veterinary Surgery exceptionally well. That means being friendly, professional, helpful, respectful, and responsive, whether you are speaking with a veterinarian, helping another technician, or interacting with a pet owner. Our goal is for our partner hospitals to be genuinely happy when they see the KVS team walk through the door. Qualifications Previous veterinary experience required Surgical experience preferred Licensed Veterinary Technicians are encouraged to apply Experienced veterinary assistants are also encouraged to apply Strong understanding of sterile technique preferred We will teach you everything you need to know! Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment Excellent attention to detail Strong communication and customer-service skills Dependable attendance and punctuality Comfortable riding in the car between veterinary hospitals as part of the normal workday Ability to stand for extended periods Must be able to safely lift at least 50 pounds Must be comfortable assisting with lifting, positioning, and handling veterinary patients Compensation Starting pay begins at $20.00 per hour. Higher starting compensation may be offered based on veterinary experience, surgical experience, technical skills, credentials, and overall fit for the position. Employees are guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours of pay every week, even when 30 hours of work are not available. Employees are also eligible to participate in our profit-sharing program. Retirement Benefits After one year of employment, eligible employees participate in our 401(k) plan with an employer safe-harbor contribution. The employer contribution is provided even if the employee chooses not to contribute any of their own money to the plan. Schedule This position generally works four days per week - mostly Monday through Thursdays. Three day weekends - every weekend! No on-call shifts. Major holidays off. Our schedule varies depending on the number and location of surgeries scheduled. Some days may finish earlier or later than others. When KVS finishes early, has a light surgical schedule, closes for vacation, or takes a scheduled break, employees continue receiving their guaranteed weekly pay.
