Slidell Veterinary Hospital is seeking a motivated Veterinary Assistant/Technician to join our busy, experienced veterinary team. Responsibilities Assist in animal restraint and handling to ensure safety and comfort during examinations and procedures. Prepare animals for surgery, including aseptic technique application, IV insertion, and vascular access. Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, ensuring animal safety through veterinary anesthesia monitoring protocols. Perform laboratory work such as phlebotomy, diagnostic radiology, and sample processing for diagnostic purposes. Support emergency medicine cases by providing critical care, medication administration, and assisting with intensive care procedures. Operate medical equipment including X-ray machines, radiology diagnostics tools, and other veterinary technology. Maintain detailed records using veterinary software, ensuring accurate documentation of treatments and procedures. Assist with pet grooming, pet care routines, and client communication to promote overall animal well-being. Qualifications Responsibilities will vary based on experience and demonstrated skill level. Team members will receive hands-on training and have the opportunity to develop additional technical skills as they progress. Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with appointments, treatments, and patient care Safely restrain and handle dogs, cats, and other patients during examinations and procedures Prepare exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites for procedures Assist with diagnostic testing, laboratory sample collection and processing Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures Prepare patients for surgery and assist the surgical team as trained Learn and develop technical skills such as blood collection, IV catheter placement, medication administration, and anesthesia monitoring based on experience and demonstrated competency Assist with hospitalized patients, treatments, and patient monitoring Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked treatment and patient-care areas Accurately document patient information and treatments in veterinary medical records Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and fellow team members Work closely with our veterinarians, technicians, and Skills Coach to continually improve technical skills and knowledge Take initiative, accept coaching, and progressively assume additional responsibilities as skills and confidence develop We do not expect every applicant to walk through the door knowing how to do everything.
