Job Description

Veterinary Technician/Assistant
  • Mobile House Call Practice (Biddeford, ME) Vet At Your Door (VAYD) is a veterinarian-owned house call practice bringing exceptional veterinary care directly into homes across Maine. We were built on a simple idea: pets and their people do better when care comes to them. We're privately owned and working toward something bigger
  • becoming the first veterinary company in the country to reach 100% employee ownership through an ESOP within the next three years. That means real, tangible stakes for every team member in the success we build together. We're hiring a Veterinary Technician/Assistant based in Biddeford, ME to partner one-on-one with one of our doctors serving southern Maine
  • Biddeford, Portland, Kennebunk, and surrounding communities. The right person for this job is a self-starter who runs the day. In a house call practice, the technician is the operational backbone of the team. You and your doctor are a two-person unit on the road, and it's the tech who keeps the day on the rails
  • prepping the route, confirming what's needed for each visit, keeping the vehicle stocked, staying on top of records and follow-ups, and making sure nothing slips through the cracks.
Your doctor is an excellent clinician while keep everything organized and moving, so you need to be someone who sees what needs to happen next and does it without being asked. You'll thrive here if you: Take initiative. You don't wait to be told
  • you anticipate, plan ahead, and act.
Are exceptionally organized. Checklists, prep, inventory, and follow-through are second nature to you, and you enjoy building systems that make the day run smoother. Are confident and direct. You're comfortable speaking up, redirecting when the day drifts, and helping keep the team on schedule. Own the details. You're the person who notices the missing supply, the unfinished chart, or the client who never got a callback. Are steady under pressure. You stay calm, keep priorities straight, and help others do the same. If you've been the person who quietly (or not so quietly) keeps a clinic running, this role was built for you. About the Work This position centers on relationship-building: pairing gentle, skilled patient handling with clear client education so families walk away feeling informed and reassured. You'll assist with wellness appointments that sometimes incorporate complementary approaches
  • acupuncture, cold laser therapy, and other integrative techniques
  • alongside conventional medicine, all aimed at keeping patients calm and comfortable in their own environment.
Because you'll be working in clients' homes rather than a clinic, independent judgment and strong self-direction matter a great deal. We're seeking someone thorough, flexible, and genuinely energized by connecting with people and their animals.
This Could Be Your Role If You:
Want real ownership over how your day runs, not just a task list Work well solo but still want to feel connected to a supportive team Prioritize a sustainable schedule with predictable weekday hours Like balancing direct patient care with the behind-the-scenes systems that keep a practice running Bring careful attention to detail and communicate with clarity and confidence Genuinely enjoy forming long-term bonds with clients and their pets Are excited to grow with a purpose-driven practice on the path to employee ownership
What You'll Need:
Veterinary Technician license in Maine (preferred
  • experience considered in lieu of licensure) At least 6 years of hands-on clinical experience A proven track record of self-direction
  • you've kept a schedule, a team, or a clinic organized without close supervision A calm, confident, compassionate presence when working in someone's home Strong organizational habits and attention to detail Dependability, curiosity, and solid communication skills Reliable ability to work from the Biddeford area (company vehicle provided)
Benefits & Perks:
Company-provided vehicle for all house calls 4 day workweek
  • Monday-Thursday (flexibility to have every other Thursday off) Comprehensive benefits for team members working 32+ hours/week, including health, dental, and vision coverage 3% match on
SIMPLE IRA
contributions Short-term and long-term disability coverage Life insurance PTO that increases with tenure CE stipend plus dedicated CE time off A culture genuinely invested in your growth and well-being Ready to Apply? If you're a compassionate, take-charge tech who wants more autonomy, deeper client relationships, and room to practice medicine at a slower, more personal pace
  • we want to hear from you.
