Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional animal care and client service. This energetic role offers the opportunity to work closely with animals, supporting veterinary professionals in delivering top-notch medical treatment, animal handling, and clinic operations. Whether assisting during surgeries, managing animal husbandry, or communicating with pet owners, you'll play a key role in promoting animal welfare and ensuring a smooth clinic experience. Please note this role - this role requires one overnight and some weekend work. 3 days on and 4 days off. Responsibilities Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal examinations, treatments, and surgeries, including medication administration and IV insertions. Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques to ensure their comfort and safety during procedures. Maintain cleanliness of the clinic by performing thorough cleaning of kennels, treatment areas, and equipment to uphold hygiene standards. Support record keeping by accurately documenting patient histories, treatments, medication logs, and other veterinary records. Manage pet care duties such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring animal behavior to promote well-being. Communicate effectively with clients regarding pet care instructions, appointment scheduling, and answering general questions about animal health. Assist with animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning enclosures, and ensuring proper animal physiology and anatomy are maintained. Support front desk operations by managing appointments, answering phone calls, and handling client check-ins to ensure a welcoming environment. Contribute to emergency response efforts in critical care situations involving animals requiring specialized veterinary attention. Experience Candidates should possess prior experience working with animals in a veterinary or kennel setting. Specific experience that is highly valued includes: Kennel experience or animal shelter work demonstrating animal handling skills. Veterinary technician or veterinary clinic experience providing familiarity with medical procedures and terminology. Critical care experience involving emergency procedures or intensive animal treatment. Equine experience for those interested in large-animal care environments. Skills in dog handling, animal restraint techniques, and understanding of animal behavior patterns. Additional qualifications include knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy and physiology, medication administration protocols, record keeping practices, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and proficiency in client communication. A background in surgery support or anesthesia assistance is a plus but not mandatory.
