Job Description
Haywood Animal Hospital is a small animal practice in Hendersonville, NC that sees cats, dogs, and exotic pets. We have a great group of talented DVMs, technician assistants and receptionists. Job Qualifications:
Honesty Integrity Compassion / Empathy Sense of humor Desire to be successful at your job. Computer literate We are a paperless practice. Must be able to lift 40# by yourself. This is a hands-on position with opportunities to learn and develop valuable veterinary clinical skills. Veterinary assistants work closely with our veterinarians to provide excellent patient care while helping keep the hospital running smoothly. Care for hospitalized, surgical, and outpatient patients. Assist with holding and safely restraining animals during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Learn and perform venipuncture and blood collection under appropriate supervision. Learn to place IV catheters under appropriate supervision. Prepare vaccines, injections, medications, and other treatments as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician. Assist in collecting blood, urine, fecal, and other diagnostic samples. Assist technicians with running in-house laboratory testing and bloodwork. Assist with radiographs and proper patient positioning. Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with surgical procedures. Prepare patients and surgical areas for procedures. Monitor and provide care for patients during recovery from anesthesia and other procedures. Assist with emergency patient care and first aid. Clean, disinfect, and sanitize examination rooms and treatment areas between patients. Clean and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and other medical tools. Ensure examination, treatment, and operating rooms are appropriately cleaned, organized, and stocked. Maintain clean cages and kennels and change bedding and kennel materials as needed. Assist technicians with filling and preparing prescriptions. Communicate with clients regarding surgery, discharge, and recovery instructions as directed by the medical team. Help educate clients about preventative care, animal health, medical conditions, medications, and proper at-home care. Answer client phone calls and assist with questions or route medical questions to the appropriate team member. Schedule appointments and assist with client and patient check-in and checkout. Complete assigned end-of-day cleaning, stocking, and closing responsibilities. Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, receptionists, and other team members to provide compassionate, efficient care for our patients and clients. No two days in veterinary medicine are exactly the same. We're looking for someone who is dependable, compassionate, eager to learn, comfortable working with animals, and willing to jump in wherever needed.
