Job Description

  • Overview:
  • THIS POSITION REQUIRES PREVIOUS VETERINARY ASSISTANT EXPERIENCE. IF YOU HAVE NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY
  • Join our veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant and contribute to the well-being of animals in our care. We are seeking an experienced dedicated individual with a passion for animal welfare to assist our veterinarian and support staff in providing exceptional care to our patients.
  • Duties:
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries
  • Handle and restrain animals during procedures
  • Ability to obtain a detail medical history from clients for our patients and maintain medical record.
  • Monitor and record vital signs of animals
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment rooms / overall hospital and kennels, and surgical areas
  • Provide post-operative care and administer medications as directed
  • Assist with client education on topics such as nutrition, medication administration, and basic animal care
  • Ability to work a rotating Saturday schedule
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision, to find tasks and areas within hospital that need care during downtime to continue overall daily productivity
  • Ability to work 10-11 hour work schedule with 1 hour lunch break
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs by self.
  • Skills:
  • Experience in veterinary medicine is required, with minimum of 12 month of on the job related work required. However, 2+ year(s) is preferred. Please do not apply unless you meet this criterion.
  • Knowledge of veterinary critical care practices and ability to triage patients that come in through urgent care.
  • Understand importance of wellness visits and preventative care when applied to both dogs and cats.
  • Proficiency in handling and caring for dogs and cats. Ability to handle fractious pets and know techniques to safely handle without injury them or self.
  • Ability to follow aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and ability to provide compassionate care to both pets and clients alike
  • Familiarity with in-house diagnostics including IDEXX laboratories, fecal exams, skin scrapings preferred
  • PMS is a cloud-based program (Shepherd) and this practice is considered paperless. Thus, basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate with team members to relay hospital / client / staff needs and help overall success of the practice.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment and both ask for and be of help to your team mates!
  • Ability to draw blood, experience placing IVC, and assistance in dentistry and surgery major plus. Proof of this ability will provide a higher starting wage.
