Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center is the 24/7 advanced care unit for the NC State Veterinary Hospital. Our team cares for a diverse population of critically ill, post-operative, trauma, neurological, internal medicine, and emergency patients. We are seeking Veterinary Assistants and RVTs who are passionate about advanced patient care and enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative teaching environment. Responsibilities Provide advanced nursing care to high-acuity hospitalized patients. Perform venipuncture and venous, arterial, and central catheter placement and management. Monitor TPR, blood pressure, ECG, oxygen saturation, and other critical parameters. Administer medications, CRIs, IV fluids, pain management, and blood/plasma transfusions. Provide oxygen therapy, ventilator monitoring, urinary and gastric tube management, and other advanced treatments. Perform CPR and provide emergency and life-saving support. Manage high-risk post-anesthetic and post-surgical patients. Care for patients with complex medical, neurological, trauma, organ failure, and extracorporeal conditions. Manage isolation, infectious disease, and antibiotic-resistant patients. Utilize specialized equipment including ventilators, defibrillators, infusion pumps, wound vacuums, ultrasound, ECG, and oxygen delivery systems. Coordinate care and communicate effectively with specialty services, clinicians, students, and other members of the veterinary team. Teach and mentor veterinary students, interns, residents, and new staff. Accurately document patient care and maintain a safe, clean environment. What We're Looking For Strong veterinary nursing and patient-care skills. Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical-thinking abilities. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment. Interest in critical care, specialty medicine, and continued learning. Emergency, critical care, or specialty experience is preferred. Veterinary Assistants and RVTs are encouraged to apply. This position requires the ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds and work around potential occupational hazards and infectious disease risks.
