Veterinary Technician Assistants are essential to this mission. You support our doctors, technicians, and patients by keeping the hospital running smoothly, safely, and compassionately behind the scenes and at the exam table.
The Position:
Veterinary Technician Assistant Veterinary Technician Assistants play a hands-on role in patient care and clinical support throughout the hospital. This is an ideal role for someone early in their veterinary career (0-3 years experience) who is eager to learn, help, and grow in a supportive, team-focused environment. We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant who values: Compassionate, low-stress patient handling Teamwork and clear communication Accountability and attention to detail A respectful, drama-free workplace Learning and skill development in clinical medicine Being part of a close-knit, community-focused team What You'll Do Consultations & Exams Assist veterinarians and technicians during patient appointments Prepare for visits by reviewing medical history, diet, medications, and preventive care status Collect and record vital signs (TPR, weight, CRT) Use low-stress, compassionate restraint techniques Disinfect and restock exam rooms between patients Collect diagnostic samples (blood, urine, feces, ear/skin swabs) as directed Label, handle, and store samples properly Maintain accurate medical records and update charges in real time Communicate next steps, treatment plans, and costs clearly with clients and the medical team Patient Care & Hospitalized Pets Walk and exercise dogs; monitor appetite, elimination, and comfort Provide basic grooming care as directed (nail trims, ear cleaning, medical bathing, brushing) Offer enrichment and comfort to hospitalized patients Observe and report abnormal behavior or medical concerns Administer oral and topical medications under supervision Assist with E-collar fitting, basic bandage care, and subcutaneous fluids Maintain patient comfort with clean bedding, appropriate temperature, and a calm environment Surgery & Clinical Support Prepare treatment and surgical areas for daily procedures Assist with anesthesia setup, surgical prep, and monitoring as directed Safely restrain and position patients for procedures and radiographs Clean, disinfect, and restock surgical and treatment areas Monitor inventory and communicate low-stock supplies Follow aseptic technique and safety protocols at all times Laboratory & Diagnostics Collect, label, and prepare samples for in-house testing or outside labs Prepare cytology slides for ear and skin samples Run basic in-house diagnostics as directed Assist with radiograph positioning using lead safety equipment Clean and maintain lab equipment Ensure accurate completion of lab requisitions Client Communication & Education Greet clients and patients warmly Communicate clearly and compassionately about patient care Review and reinforce discharge instructions Demonstrate medication administration techniques Educate clients on vaccines, parasite prevention, and nutrition Answer phones, triage calls, and relay messages appropriately Support clients during emotional or end-of-life situations with empathy Hospital Maintenance & Team Support Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, exam tables, and treatment areas Perform daily laundry and restocking Handle sharps and biohazard waste appropriately Support veterinarians, technicians, and front desk staff to maintain workflow Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuing education You'll thrive in this role if you bring: Compassion and empathy for patients and clients Clear communication and professionalism Strong organization and attention to detail Accountability and follow-through Ability to stay calm in a fast-paced environment Desire to learn and grow clinically Team-first mindset
Schedule & Experience Full-time:
40 hours/week
Part-time:
