Description Veterinary Assistant (Surgery Experience Required) - No Weekends! Powell Veterinary Center at Westmoreland is seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our team as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community. Located in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood, our two-doctor general practice is looking for a well-rounded Veterinary Assistant to support appointments, anesthesia monitoring, surgical procedures, and patient care. Previous veterinary surgery experience is required. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both general practice and surgery and is comfortable assisting with surgical preparation, monitoring, recovery, and supporting the veterinary team throughout procedures. Plus, our clinic is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, meaning no weekends, no overnight shifts, and no holiday rotations. Why Join Us? Assist the medical team to maintain efficient patient flow and maximize productivity. Assist with surgeries and medical procedures in accordance with state regulations. Communicate with clients regarding pet health concerns, medications, treatment plans, and Thrive Membership options. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records. Obtain patient histories and update medical charts. Utilize safe animal handling and restraint techniques. Maintain clean, organized, and sterile treatment, laboratory, and exam room areas. Skills & Qualifications 1-2 years of veterinary clinical experience required Previous veterinary surgery experience required Knowledge of surgical preparation, sterile technique, anesthesia monitoring, and patient recovery preferred Strong communication and client service skills Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment Availability to work our Monday-Friday schedule with no weekend requirements Benefits - Our Care in Action Paid time off, including parental leave, bereavement leave for both humans and pets, and new pet adoption leave.
