We are seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant for weekday evening hours and Saturday morning hours. We are a busy, one veterinarian practice looking for someone who is a motivated, compassionate individual and who is willing to assist wherever is needed. In this position you will be working closely with small animals (dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, rodents) in a clinical and kennel setting. You will be assisting the doctor and technicians in appointments by using proper restraint to hold animals; caring for animals who are boarding; and cleaning and stocking medical supplies. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean, for animals and humans alike. We do have a boarding facility on-site so some weekend hours may be required. We are a caring and compassionate team looking for an individual to match our commitment to care. Responsibilities Feed and weigh animals Clean cages and bathe animals Sterilize equipment and clean examination tables and rooms Restrain animals during examinations/vaccinations Administer medication prescribed by veterinarian Observe animal behavior or health condition during boarding and report to the vet Keep accurate records and logs for boarding Skills Current or former pet ownership is an advantage Excellent communication skills Patient and caring personality Ability to follow instructions properly Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs, birds, reptiles etc.) Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 50 lbs) High school diploma
