Grooming & Kennel Assistant Reports To:

Medical Director and Boarding & Grooming Manager A Boarding and Vet Assistant is responsible for the daily care and well-being of animals in our boarding or grooming facility. This dual role combines general medical and animal care along facility maintenance and assisting boarding clients. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about animals. The assistant provides support to the Boarding and Grooming staff, helping to ensure that all animals are safe, clean, and comfortable. Key responsibilities Medical duties

Dietary Needs :

Be able to administer or inject any stimulants or supplements to animals according to specified schedules and dietary plans.

Monitoring health:

Observe animal behavior, eating habits, and overall health. Promptly report any signs of illness, injury, or distress to a supervisor or veterinarian. We do provide on-call medical support when/if needed. Medication(s): Administer & log oral or topical medications as directed by Veterinary Team.

Behavioral Management and Safe Handling Protocols:

Could include minor observed aggressive/reactive canine and feline clients Boarding duties: Animal care: Provide food and water to animals according to specified schedules and dietary plans.

Exercise and enrichment:

Walk, exercise, and maintain the human-animal bond to keep them healthy and happy during their stay.

Medication:

Workstation maintenance:

Keep all work areas clean, organized, and sanitized throughout the day.

Cleaning and sanitation Facility maintenance:

Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and common areas to prevent the spread of disease(s).

Laundry:

Wash and sterilize food/water bowls and facility laundry, such as towels and pet bedding.

General cleaning:

Perform general housekeeping tasks, including sweeping, mopping, and taking out trash. Qualifications and requirements

Experience:

Previous experience working with animals is required . For medical experience, prior medical references are requested.

Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent is acceptable.

Animal handling skills:

Must be comfortable and capable of handling and restraining various types of animals safely.

Physical stamina:

The role requires frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting of animals and equipment, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently.

Soft skills:

Strong communication, customer service, and a compassionate and patient demeanor are essential.

Schedule flexibility:

The flexibility to work Friday through Monday (weekend coverage) as this position requires full availability during scheduled work hours to ensure consistency and support for the team's operations. Bilingual is a plus (Spanish)
