Job Summary The Lead Veterinary Assistant is responsible for guiding the daily flow of appointments and patient care, ensuring that each case moves smoothly from check-in to discharge. This role directs and supports veterinary assistants throughout the day, helping to assign tasks, prioritize patient needs, and keep the schedule on track. The Lead provides hands-on technical support to veterinarians, while also mentoring team members and promoting a collaborative, professional environment that delivers consistent, high-quality care and client service. Essential Responsibilities Daily Operations Supervise patient care activities, ensuring efficiency and adherence to medical standards. Support veterinarians with exams, treatments, surgeries, radiology, and laboratory work. Assist in patient intake, history-taking, and medical charting. Manage shift scheduling, ensuring proper coverage for patient care and hospital flow Coordinate daily staff rounds and communicate updates. Leadership & Training Provide guidance, coaching, and training to veterinary assistants and junior staff in patient care techniques and hospital protocols. Provide input on hiring, employee performance, and disciplinary action. Act as a role model for professionalism, communication, and client service. Ensure effective scheduling of clinical staff to meet hospital needs. Technical Support Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians. Collect and process laboratory samples. Perform radiology and assist in surgical procedures. Assist in accurate controlled drug logs Client Care Provide professional, friendly communication with clients. Educate clients on preventive health care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Hospital Maintenance & Inventory Ensure treatment areas, exam rooms, and surgical suites remain clean and organized. Oversee stocking of medical supplies in daily use areas. Assist with equipment troubleshooting and report needs to the Practice Manager. Compensation:
Compensation is determined based on the candidate's years of experience, technical skill level, and demonstrated leadership experience.
