The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in animal care and handling, with experience supporting veterinary professionals in clinical settings. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional pet care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring the well-being of feline & canine species. This position offers an engaging environment where your skills in animal husbandry, restraint, and veterinary terminology will contribute to outstanding patient outcomes and client satisfaction. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with clinical procedures including medication administration, animal restraint, and sample collection. Provide compassionate pet care by monitoring animals' health status throughout their stay. Support laboratory work by preparing samples, maintaining equipment, and recording test results accurately. Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques for examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures. Maintain cleanliness within treatment areas to prevent infection and ensure safety standards. Manage front desk duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, updating patient records, and communicating with pet owners effectively. Support animal husbandry activities including feeding routines, cleaning, and general care for our patients. Assist with animal catheterization, laboratory testing, and other specialized veterinary tasks requiring knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology. Qualifications Prior experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter setting is required. Demonstrated knowledge of animal handling, restraint techniques, and pet care best practices. Familiarity with veterinary terminology, laboratory procedures, and aseptic techniques. Experience with kennel management, animal husbandry, and medication administration. Strong understanding of animal physiology and anatomy is advantageous. Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members professionally. Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting animals or equipment safely while maintaining attention to detail. Certification as a veterinary assistant is a plus but not mandatory. Candidates must be flexible and may occasionally be required to cover shifts at our sister location in Mt. Pleasant, WI.
